Man killed by wife, her paramour

Moga: A middle-aged man was allegedly killed by his wife and her paramour at Kokri Kalan village in the district on Monday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surjit Singh Grewal said a case had been registered at the Ajitwal police station and both the accused had been arrested. Grewal said the victim, Lakhvir Singh, and his wife Amandeep Kaur alias Dimple did not have cordial relations. Preliminary investigations revealed Dimple had an extramarital affair with Lakhvir's cousin Dev Singh, he said, adding last night, both the accused gave sleeping pills to other members of the family and killed Lakhvir with a sharp-edged weapon. — TNS

Placement portal for students

Chandigarh: The state government on Tuesday started a placement portal for students of various ITIs, polytechnic and engineering colleges. SS Channi, Principal Secretary, Technical Education, said the portal would provide information about alumni, their achievements, career services, alumni facilities, seminars and guest workshops and the trade-wise positions available in industries. — TNS

CII team leaves for Pak tour

A 13-member delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) left for Pakistan on a 5-day visit to hold business conventions and seminars. The Indian delegation would hold businessmen to businessmen meetings with members of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Subsequently, they would hold similar meetings with members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. — TNS

8 fined for smoking:
Ramban Police on Monday booked eight persons and fined Rs 200 each, under Cigarette and Other Tabacco Products Act (COTPA) at Gool and Dharamkund for smoking at public places. The accused booked at Gool include Tahir Hussain, Ab. Rashid, Mohd Shafi, Mohd Yousaf, Mushtaq Hussain, Ashiq and Abdul Raheem while Shoket Ali was booked at Sangaldan.

Man found dead

Srinagar:A body was found near the Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir. The police said the body was recovered on the Aru road near the Pahalgam resort. The deceased has been identified as Rouf Jan, a resident of Harman village of Shopian district.

KU teacher honoured

@Srinagar:University of Kashmir Business School director Prof Shabir Bhat has been selected for the ‘Education Leadership Award’ by a private national broadcasting channel for his contribution to the business education sector.v Headlines Today in its ‘National Education Awards’ announced Prof Shabir’s name for the award. The awardees have been chosen by an independent jury and a panel of professionals. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 14, 2012, in New Delhi.
