Drowning Incident
Another girl's body found
Khanna, October 12
The Machhiwara police has recovered the body of a migrant girl, Seema, who fell into the Sirhind canal along with two other girls on October 7. The mishap had taken place when the girls had gone to take a dip in the canal in connection with with the Jeetia Parn festival.

Girl commits suicide
Ludhiana, October 11
An 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at Jattan village in the Kum Kalan area here today. The deceased has been identified as Manpreet Kaur and was reportedly suffering from depression. Her father Bhajan Singh said the girl committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. The incident took place when no one was present in the house.

Power supply to be hit today

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited authorities have said the 220 kV Ferozepur Road substation will be shut tomorrow from 9 am to 2 pm to upgrade the existing equipment.

Shradhs fail to deter shoppers
Ludhiana, October 12
The ongoing "shradhs" have failed to deter the spirit of shoppers in the city. Only those who want to shop for auspicious occasions like marriage and other ceremonies are shying away from visiting the markets. "Gone are the days when people used to postpone their shopping plans due to shradhs. This year, we haven't seen any decrease in the number of shoppers visiting our store even during the shradhs," said Ram Parkash, owner of a silk store at Ghumar Mandi.

World Arthritis Day observed

World Arthritis Day was observed by the Department of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement, SPS Apollo Hospitals, at Rotary Club here today. An awareness talk was delivered by the Senior Consultant and Head of the Department, Dr Harpreet Gill. Around 100 people had an interactive session with Dr Gill, who answered their queries about arthritis and knee-replacement surgery.

Surprise checks at govt offices
To make sure that every government official reaches office in time, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari will go for surprise checks at different government offices between 9 am to 10.30 am.
