Mayor launches cleanliness drive

An innocuous move by certain officials of the municipal corporation turned into an embarrassing situation at a cleanliness drive launched by the civic body with city Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, other officials and councillors sweeping roads in the Miller Ganj locality today.

Head Constable booked on charge of rape

A day after a Head Constable was caught during a raid in connection with a flesh trade racket in the Shivpuri area, another Head Constable was booked on a charge of rape at the Dugri police station here today.
Girl's body found

The Machhiwara police has recovered the body of a migrant girl, Cheeku, who fell into the Sirhind canal along with two other girls on October 7. The mishap had taken place when the girls had gone to take a dip in the canal in connection with the Jeetia Parn festival.
1 held on extortion charge
Ludhiana, October 11
A suspect was arrested today for allegedly demanding Rs 1 crore as extortion money from a city-based industrialist.
Davinder Singh, a resident of BRS Nagar, received an SMS on October 8 from an unknown number in which the sender demanded Rs 1 crore from the industrialist.
Will Metro project be viable?

Tall claims are being made by the state government on making the Metro project a reality in the industrial city of
Ludhiana. The project will be similar on the pattern of New Delhi to provide relief to commuters and to ease out unnecessary burden of vehicles on the roads.

Minor fire at kidney centre

Drug peddler arrested
