210 units of blood donated:
A blood donation camp was organised at the Swami Parmanand College of Engineering and Technology to mark the Nirvan Divas of Swami Parmanand Maharaj. The camp was organised in collaboration with the blood transfusion department of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Hoshiarpur
Home Guard jawan killed:
Paras Ram, a Home Guard jawan posted at Mukerian police station and belonging to Nansota, died on the spot when an unknown vehicle hit him near Sango Katrala on the intervening night of October 5 and October 6. The Mukerian police has registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC in this connection.

Grants for schools: As much as Rs 2 crore has been spent for repairing of government school buildings in Sham Chaurasi segment in the district during the current financial year, said Mohinder Kaur Josh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab, after inaugurating the building of Shaheed Krishan Mohan Government High School at Dandoh village on Saturday. She announced Rs 2 lakh for improvement of road to the said school and Rs one lakh to Guru Ravi Dass Society of the village. She announced Rs 3.50 lakh for the construction of school boundary wall of Bassi Wazid village and gave a cheque of Rs 3,17,440 to Mohalla Tabaliwal Janauri for Panchayat Ghar on the occasion.

Check-up camp: Sohan Singh Thandal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, inaugurated the second free medical check-up camp, organised by Guru Nanak Sports and Welfare Society, at Makhsoospur village on Sunday.

Moga
Teachers block NH:
Teaching and non-teaching staff members of Adarsh schools, along with the parents of children studying in these schools, staged a protest on the main square of Moga town on Sunday. They stopped the traffic on the National Highway on the main square for more than two hours disrupting normal life in the town. They demanded that the state government should issue a white paper on the financial irregularities being committed by the BIS Group of Institutes managing the three Adarsh schools with the government aid in the district.

Education scenario has improved:
Minister: Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa on Sunday said Punjab, which stood 16th in the country six years ago in the development of basic infrastructure in the field of education, now had climbed to number three position. He said this had been possible due to “sincere efforts” put in by the SAD-BJP government. Dhindsa was speaking at a scholarship-distribution function organised by Guru Kirpa Welfare Society at Gurdwara Nankiana Sahib here.

Talwara
Villagers stage dharna:
Residents of over 24 villages located on the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border held a dharna on the Talwara-Mukerian road demanding a ban on mining on the Beas riverbed. The protest got a political tint with senior leaders of the CPM, PPP and other parties joining the dharna. Raghu Nath Singh and Darshan Singh Mattu of the CPM and Sulakhan Singh of the PPP flayed the state government for turning a blind eye towards the menace.

2 HCS officers shifted:
The Haryana Government has issued transfer and posting orders of two HCS officers with immediate effect. AS Mann, Estate Officer, HUDA, Rohtak, has been posted as Secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), in the same district against a vacant post. Ashima Sangwan, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Rohtak, has been given the additional charge of the Estate Officer, HUDA, in place of AS Mann.

Monitoring panel: The Haryana Government has constituted a state-level Central Monitoring Committee (CMC) under the State Women Empowerment Mission. Principal Secretary, Haryana Women and Child Development Department, will be its chairperson and the panel would have representatives of different departments and experts to take stock of the convergence issues with different departments.

IG 3rd in race: Deshraj, Inspector-General of the Haryana Armed Police, has bagged the third position in veteran half-marathon organised by the ITBP in New Delhi. A ploice spokesmansaid Deshraj completed the half-marathon of 21.1 km in one hour, 28 minutes and five seconds. Noted film actor Salmam Khan was the chief guest.

Kurukshetra
KUTA chief:
Dr Pradeep Chauhan, president of the Kurukshetra University Teachers’ Association (KUTA), has been elected as member of the Executive Council (EC), the supreme decision-making body of Kurukshetra University. Dr Chauhan defeated Dr Anil Gupta by a margin of four votes. He polled 34 votes, while his opponents, Dr Gupta and Dr Nisha, got 30 and eight votes, respectively.

Convocation held: “The convocation day is always a memorable and historic day in the life of a student, who gets degree after completing his studies and steps in a new world,” said chief guest MP Deepinder Singh Hooda while addressing the first convocation of Shri Jairam Girls College at Lohar Majra on Saturday.

3 get life term:
Additional District and Sessions Judge RP Goyal has sentenced three persons to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each for the murder of a liquor contractor at Madhosinghana village in the district on October 24, 2010. Kulwant, a resident of Modiakhera village, was murdered with sharp-edged weapons by his partner Kanhaya Lal and his accomplices Mahabir and Sushil.
