Buffeted by national outrage over a series of gang rapes, Haryana on Saturday found its shame unmitigated when a teenage Dalit victim committed suicide in Jind, and a Hisar woman complained she was abducted and repeatedly raped over the past one month.

The Jind incident took place around 2.30 pm on Saturday. The victim was allegedly dragged into his house by her neighbour, identified as Pradeep, who also belongs to the same community. While Pradeep’s sister-in-law Meena stood guard on the terrace, he along with co-accused Naveen allegedly took turns to rape the girl.

In a state of shock, the girl went to her house and set herself on fire. She suffered 80 per cent burns and was shifted to the PGIMS in Rohtak where she died.

The police have arrested two persons. “We have arrested two persons,” said SSP Saurabh Singh. The accused have been booked under various sections of the IPC, he said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining accused.

In Hisar, two persons were arrested today for allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman.

The accused have been identified as Chander Bhan and Sher Singh. In her complaint to the police, the woman alleged that the accused had kept her in illegal detention for over a month and raped her.

The victim said she undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hisar. After she was discharged from the hospital, the woman was abducted by Chander Bhan on her way to home. She was taken to Satrod village where she was given some intoxicant and then raped. The other accused Sher Singh took her to some place in Punjab and kept her in confinement for over a month and raped her. The woman managed to escape from there and lodged a complaint with the police on Friday. The police arrested Sher Singh and Chander Bhan on Saturday.

The Sachcha Kheda village case is the fourth rape in the Jind district in the past six weeks.
