Sirhind canal to be shut for 21 days: The Sirhind canal branching off from the Ropar Head Works will remain closed from October 8 to 28 (21 days) due to construction work on the four-laning of a road with flyovers along with Sidhwan Canal by the Public Works Department (B&R). 

Interview schedule announced: The Punjab Government on Thursday announced the schedule for the interviews of paramedical staff. The interviews of eligible candidates will be conducted from October 13 to 15 at Government Medical College, Patiala. 

Charge assigned for teachers’ programme: The Punjab government has designated the State Council of Education Research and Training, Punjab, as the academic authority for developing in-service teacher training design to implement the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

Foetus found dumped in Gidderbaha: A foetus was found dumped along a roadside opposite the grain market in Gidderbaha on Thursday. The police has registered a case.

Exam put off: The Haryana School Education Board, Bhiwani, has postponed the senior secondary first semester examination of social science subject scheduled on October 7, a spokesman of the board said. It would now be held on October 10 between 2:30 pm and 5 pm at the same place.

Gangrape accused in judicial custody: Five accused in the Dabra gangrape case were today remanded in judicial custody by a local court. The police informed the court that it had recovered the motorcycle used in the crime. The mobile phone with which an MMS clip of the rape had been prepared had also been recovered from Ranikhet and sent to the forensic laboratory in Madhuban.

Man booked for demanding dowry: The police has registered a case against Navneet Singh, a resident of Shahzadpur, for demanding more dowry. In a complaint lodged with the police, Pooja Rani, a resident of Kirmach village, stated that she got married to Navneet Singh on June 7, 2011, and since then she had been harassed by her husband to bring more dowry.
