Aroma murder case
Chandigarh, September 19 The security guard at Aroma, who is the complainant in the case against eight accused, told the court that he was never a witness to the murder. Dilshad Ali, the security guard told the court he was on duty on the night of January 16 this year, when an NRI, Harminder Singh, was killed. He told the court that he was present inside the hotel when the murder took place and was not witness to the killing. Taking a complete U-turn from his earlier statements, he also told the court that he was ignorant of any recoveries of weapon as made out in the police case. The statements of the complainant were key to the prosecution in the case and his turning hostile today has weakened the case of the police. The UT police had initially registered a case of murder against all the accused but then had changed the charges to those of culpable homicide in the chargesheet filed in court in April. Last month, the court had framed charges of culpable homicide under Section 304 of the IPC against eight accused involved in the murder of a youth at Aroma light point in January this year. There are eight accused in the case including Sukhjit Singh Sooch, a Mohali resident, Harsimranjeet Singh (28), a resident of Sector 44, Chandan Singh (24), Sandeep Kumar (27), Gautam Singh (23), all residents of Burail, Anand Singh (27) and Mahavir Singh (25), both residents of Sector 41, and Prashant Kumar Dabral (31), a resident of Sector 49. The incident had occurred well past midnight when a 28-year-old Harminder Singh was killed following a scuffle outside the Aroma light point in Sector 22. The victim, an MBA student had recently returned from Ireland and had gone to the Aroma coffee shop when he got into a scuffle with a group of youths. He was murdered in a spur of a moment and the attack was not preplanned, police had said. — TNS |
