11 police officers transferred
: The Punjab Government on Friday issued transfer orders of one IPS and 10 PPS officers. An official spokesperson said Nilambri J Vijay, an IPS officer, had been posted as ADCP-1 Ludhiana. The PPS officers transferred were: Parampal Singh as SP (City-2), Mohali; Sunita Rani as SP (Traffic), Mohali; Balwant Singh as SP (H), Fatehgarh Sahib; Manjit Singh Dhesi as Assistant Commandant, 75th Battalion, PAP, Jalandhar; Harbhajan Singh as SP, GRP, Patiala; Manmohan Sharma as SP (H), Fazilka; Balbir Singh as SP (D), Fazilka; Bhupinder Singh as SP (D), Khanna; Jai Pal Singh as AIG/Counter Intelligence (II), Bathinda; and Sandeep Goel as SP, Vigilance Bureau (EOW Wing), Punjab, Chandigarh. —

Pathankot food controller booked
: The Sarabha Nagar police has booked Amritpal Singh, District Food and Supplies Controller, Pathankot, for physically and mentally torturing his wife Paramjit Kaur, a resident of HIG Flats, Rajguru Nagar. Paramjit Kaur had accused Amritpal Singh of subjecting her to constant torture ever since their marriage in 1995. The couple has been living separately since 2008. The accused was at large.

Five hurt in brawl
: Five persons were injured in a brawl over alleged eve-teasing at Brahmpur Mohalla on Friday. One of the injured, Vinod Joshi, alleged that around 15 youths attacked him after he objected to eve-teasing. The five who suffered injuries were: Vinod Joshi, Ravinder Kumar, Jasmer Singh, Mandeep and Jasbir Singh. Mandeep, on the other hand, claimed that he was returning home on a motorcycle when Joshi along with his friends attacked him.

1,000 staff nurses to be appointed
: The Punjab Health Department will appoint 1,000 staff nurses on a regular basis by the end of next month in various parts of the state. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, on Friday said the process of recruiting medical and paramedical staff was on. On the shortage of laboratory technicians in hospitals, Mahajan said their case was sub judice and the government would approach the court to start their recruitment process.

Labourer killed
: A labourer, who was working in a footwear company, was killed when he fell down from a running bus in Bahadurgarh town on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Pawan. The incident took place when Pawan was waiting for a bus to go to the company. As soon as he tried to board the bus, he fell down and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital here, but he succumbed to his injuries.

11 bikes recovered
: The police on Friday recovered 11 stolen motorcycles. Following a tip-off, the police nabbed Sanjay and Vishal, residents of Khanpur in Jhijhana district (UP) with two stolen bikes on August 31. Both accused produced in the court on September 1 were remanded in four-day police custody.

Two dead
: Jora Singh of Bodhani succumbed to his injuries at Mission Hospital, Pehowa, after his motorcycle was hit by a Tata Sumo near Malikpur, 25 km from here, on Thursday. In another case Om Singh of Sonepat died on the spot after his motorcycle was hit by a truck near Ratangarh village.

Girl missing
: Youth booked: An 11-year-old girl, who was sleeping in an open compound of her house at Bahala village, near Kosli, was found missing on Thursday morning. The Kosli police has booked village youth Rahul in this connection on the complaint of the girl’s father. 

3 officials booked: Following a directive issued by a local court, the police has registered a case of cheating against naib tehsildar Umesh Gupta, kanungo Ramesh Soni, circle patwari Santosh Kumar and Satish Kumar, Dharam Pal of Karawara Manakpur village. The court has issued the directive on a petition filed by Dharam Pal. The petitioner contended that Satish Kumar, in connivance with the above three revenue officials, got the mutation of his land executed in his name in the revenue records on May 23. However, Dharam Pal filed a petition in the court when the fraudulent act came to his notice. 

Woman robbed: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly looted a bag containing Rs 23,000 from a housewife, Chander Kala, at Musepur village near here on Wednesday. The incident took place when the woman, after alighting from a train, was going from the station to the village. The police has registered a case of assault and theft against the miscreants who fled the spot.

4 get life term
: The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Pramod Goyal, has sentenced four murder accused to life imprisonment. Madan, Naveen, Vikas and Ravinder of Sisana village were convicted for their involvement in the murder of Anil of the same village on November 8, 2010. 

JE held taking bribe: Ranbir Singh, junior engineer (JE) of the Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam at Rai, was last evening caught by a Vigilance team while accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from Ram Mehar of village Rasoi for releasing a tubewell connection. He was arrested and a case registered.

: Shiv Dyal (24) of Baani village sustained head injuries when a branch fell on him last evening.
He was rushed to local civil hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late last night.

Jewellery stolen from Patel Nagar
: Gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh and cash of Rs 15,000 was stolen from the house of Sobhat Singh, an exserviceman at Maya Enclave on Friday. Sobhat Singh and his wife left the house in the morning for some work. When they came back in the afternoon, they saw the grill in the rear portion of their house broken and the entire house was ransacked. A pair of gold earings, bracelet and silver coins along with Rs 15,000 were found missing from the house. The police has taken fingerprints from the location. 

Youth found dead: Desh Bandhu Pandey (24), was found dead in an underconstruction house in Prem Nagar on Friday. Bandhu was a drug addict. 

Trader hit with revolver: A businessman hit his rival on his head with his revolver in Gobind Nagar. Sanjiv Goyal had come to participate in a tender bidding at Gobind Nagar. Praveen Sharma, who was also present there, began quarrelling with Goyal and beat him up. Later, he took out his revolver and shot at him, which got missed. He then attacked him on the head.
