Gujarat farmers: CM writes to Modi:
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has sought the intervention of his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi and BJP National President Nitin Gadkari to sort out the issue of ownership rights of Punjabi farmers over land being ploughed by them for more than three decades. In separate letters to Modi and Gadkari, Badal said the orders of collector of Kuchh to freeze more than 1,000 "khedut khatas" (agricultural accounts) of Punjabi farmers was an injustice to these people.

Rs 55 cr okayed for health centres: The state government has sanctioned Rs 55 crore for ongoing works under the health core plan for upgrading health centres and construction of new health institutions. In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it was informed that Rs 162.93 crore had already been spent on the construction of 30 community health centres, two district hospitals, seven sub-divisional hospitals, 36 primary health centres, besides purchase of equipment for various health centres.

SGPC to inspect Port Blair gurdwara:
A three-member team of the SGPC would visit Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on September 14 to take stock of the condition of a gurdwara named after martyr Dr Diwan Singh Kalepani. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, who was in the town to inaugurate Bhai Nand Lal Auditorium at Mata Gujri College on Wednesday, said the committee had received a request from the gurdwara managing committee for maintaining the shrine.

Illegal liquor vend sealed:
The district administration on Wednesday sealed an illegal liquor vend at Handowal-Riali on the interstate border. Deputy Commissioner Deepinder Singh has directed Mukerian Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rahul Chaba to take action against the illegal mining mafia active in the area. "I have asked the SDM to check the revenue records of the villages and ascertain if illegal mining is going on in area falling in Punjab," he said. He said he would request the Chief Secretary to take up the issue of illegal toll barrier on village link roads and mining with the Himachal Pradesh government.

Four thieves arrested:
The Sadar police busted a gang of copper wire thieves and arrested four of its members, identified as Jasvir Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Abdul and Jasvir Kumar (all residents of Mehmoodpur village). Thieves used to steal copper wire from Powercom transformers. The police recovered one quintal of stolen copper wire from their possession.

HPCC president convenes meeting:
HPCC chief Virbhadra Singh has convened the first meeting of the party to chalk out the election strategy on September 10 here. General secretary of the party Sudhir Sharma said besides members of the HPCC, MLAs, ex-MLAs and office-bearers of district and block units had also been invited for the meeting.
