Woman held for husband’s murder
Had illicit relations with brother-in-law before her marriage
Our Correspondent

Fatehgarh Sahib, August 8
The local police has cracked a murder case in which a woman conspired with her paramour, who happens to be her brother-in-law, to murder her husband. In a confessional statement, the accused revealed that her husband was pushed into the Bhakra canal.

Addressing the media persons, just before relinquishing the charge as SSP, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, said the victim, Dilbagh Singh, a resident of Sarna village, worked in a factory at Rajpura and did not return home from work since March 6. Dilbagh was married to Jasbir Kaur and had three children. But Jasbir did not report about Dilbagh’s missing to the police and even persuaded her father-in-law Gurmeet not to approach the police but to locate him by contacting relatives.

In the meantime, one Rulda Singh, brother-in-law of Dilbagh asked Jasbir about Dilbagh and she told him that he had been missing since March 6. Rulda got suspicious and asked father of the deceased to report the matter to the police. On May 7, 2012, an FIR was registered with the Mulepur police.

The SSP said when the police started investigation, interesting facts came to limelight. He said that it was revealed that Jasbir had illicit relations with her brother-in-law, Baldev Singh, even before her marriage about which Dilbagh and his family had come to know. So Baldev and Jasbir hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Dilbagh.

He said that on March 6, Baldev along with his niece Hardeep alias Nona and his son-in-law Swarn Singh went to Dilbagh at Rajpura and picked him in a car. Later, they purchased liquor and consumed it. Therafter, they took their vehicle to Patiala. When they reached near Ganda Kheri bridge of Bhakra canal, they pushed Dilbagh into the canal.

The SSP said that the police has registered case under Sections 302, 201, 120B of the IPC against Baldev, his niece Hardeep, Swarn and Jasbir. He said that all the accused have been arrested, whereas Swarn is still at large.

Visually challenged students oppose school move
Authorities want to setup dance academy
Manish Sirhindi
Tribune News Service

Ambala, August 8
The move to start a dance academy on the premises of SD Blind School by its management has been opposed by the school students, who staged a protest outside the school demanding thwarting of the move today.

The SD Blind School management had recently decided to allow a Kathak dance academy to use the main of the school hall for a few hours a day to train children in the traditional dance form.

However, the students objected to the move claiming that the hall was used by them for various purposes including holding of cultural events.

Krishan Kumar Malik, president of the state Blind Development Association, said the land to set up the school was donated by one Genda Ram to the SD trust in 1952 for the setting up of school for the blind and it should not be used for any other purpose.

Pradeep, one of the visually-challenged students, who stays at the hostel on the school premises, said on rainy days when most the hostel rooms get inundated in water, the sutdents use the main hall to sleep besides holding classes there. He said that once the hall is given to the dance academy it would vitiate the academic atmosphere of the school.

The students also approached the district authorities and demanded that the management be asked to withdraw this move.

However, Sushil Aggarwal, a senior functionary of the SD management committee, said the dance academy would use the premises only for a few hours and that even for four days a week. Sushil said the students had been instigated by some vested interests even as the management had assured them that their academic schedule would not be distributed because of the dance academy.
