Call of the glam world
Once under the arc-lights, it is difficult to sustain without them…at least for these models
Jasmine Singh

After a point, Alice wanted to come back from the Aliceland. All these damsels, no matter what, wouldn’t want to find their way back from the rosy place they once entered by chance or by fate - this is the place that they have stayed in, the place they call the entertainment industry. Striking a pose for the annual passing-out fashion show of INIFD — The INIFD Designer Medley 12 — these beauties share that despite the challenges, they would love to stay back under or around the limelight!

No goodbye Jaswir Kaur

A playback dancer who turned down Ekta Kapoor’s offer because she wasn’t ready to act, Jaswir finally gave a shot to serials with Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan. “Once you get in the glamour industry, there is no way you would want to leave it. Getting away from the adulation, from limelight and constant media glare is not easy,” she says citing Madhuri Dixit Nene’s example, who returned in the industry after saying goodbye to it!

Word wise Nisha Harale Bedi

The minute she begins voicing her opinion on fundamental rights, tourism going bad in Mumbai, rights for DJs; you put it on her last name Bedi. Kabir Bedi’s daughter-in-law Nisha is a fashion choreographer, adores Kabir for his substance. A part of the industry, Nisha is not gung-ho on movies. “Music and fashion is my first love, not movies. And music in fashion plays a major role,” she says.

Moving on Aanchal Oberoi

Ford Super Model Aanchal has walked the ramp for major designers. When it comes to being in the industry forever, she says. “Some models stay back in the line, while others realise the extra talent in them and venture into acting.”

Being there Priyanka Shah

Winner of Get Gorgeous and Miss Tourism 2007, Priyanka will be seen in Pankaj Batra’s I Love Desi soon. “Entertainment is one big industry; modelling revolves around it, so whatever models do they eventually are around.”

Straight talk Mehak Sura

“When you are healthy and have age by your side, you are in the industry and after that there are different options to explore — being a choreographer or an event manager.”

In the spotlight
If wearing the best of the clothes and jewellery is being one-up in the fashion world, the challenge is also to carry that with perfect grace... something that Bobby Layal is doing with finesse
Mona

From a tomboy to Miss India Universe 2011 finalist, Bobby Layal’s journey has been full on adventure. Born a Sikh and brought up in Kolkata, Bobby remained rather unaware of her beauty, busy honing her singing and dancing skills.

“It was only when I moved to Punjab along with my parents that I realised that I was pretty,” says Bobby, in Chandigarh on Friday to announce Rashmi Bindra’s Bridal Affair 12.

Her parents wanted her to be an air-hostess; she took a slight detour and moved towards the modelling world. Her first big opportunity landed with ‘I am She’. “What an experience it was,” she gushes, “Our mentor Sushmita Sen has been our goddess.”

Indian Princess is the latest title that she got and is preparing for more. “I am looking forward to participating in Miss Intercontinental and Miss Bikini of the World,” she says.

With a few music videos to her credit, ramp shows across the country have kept her busy and Bobby is also working on her music album. “Singing has been one of my passions as is dancing,” says the girl who loves hip-hop and of course Bollywood dancing. So is acting the next step? “You never know,” says the lissom beauty posing for the shutterbugs flashing her beautiful smile. She does remark though, “This is the hardest part of the glamour world — to always look pretty and smile at each moment whatever you may feel in your heart.” This has become her second nature though - to give the most striking pose and flash the brightest smile as cameras come calling!

An affair worth flaunting

Dressed in Amit Kashyap’s elaborate turquoise dress, flowers tucked in hair, Bobby couldn’t stop gushing over her dress. Amit has brought his Sufiana wedding collection to the Bridal Affair. “Light fabrics in yellow, gold, pinks and blues rule this collection that starts from Rs 20,000 onwards,” says Amit.

Monsoon wedding

Bridal Affair by Dream Weddings is only becoming bigger and better with each outing. Not only clothes and jewellery, from wedding photographer, caterer to planner, you will find solutions to wedding queries. “There will be a variety of stuff in varied ranges,” says Rashmi who has tied up with Ritu Pande, Karishma Singh, Daksha Designs and many more. The ensemble will be at JW Marriott’s on Saturday and Sunday.

The world is his stage
Jasmine Singh

He does not make any effort to hide his excitement. Out of the many interviews that he has given, this one will be read by his parents in Moga, who think he isn’t doing anything in life! For this engineer-turned-actor, he feels blessed to be living his dream. Meet Arfi Lamba who has found a happy corner in the ‘infectious’ city of dreams — Mumbai. After doing a blink-and-miss role in Slumdog Millionaire, Arfi has a long list of things he is doing, which undoubtedly bring a smile on his parents’ face.

Before this, a little bit on him, right from the horse’s mouth! “I have done my engineering from Thapar University, Patiala, and then I decided to ‘just’ act. So, I moved to Mumbai and trust me, I knew I would never go back,” says Arif, who literally surprises us with two things — the speed with which he interacts and the volley of international projects he is engaged in!

Arfi is the co-owner of Bombay Berlin Film Production, an Indo-German film production and service company. He was honoured for being a part of Slumdog Millionarie at Cairo International Film Festival and is now working on International projects. Walking in the footsteps of Anil Kapoor, Dev Patel and Irrfan Khan already? “I always wanted to act whether it is Bollywood, Hollywood or Punjabi films. As luck would have it, I am getting more international projects,” shares Arfi, who by the way also reads tarot cards!

So, what does his cards say about his work. “I have shot for a Rohit Khaitan’s upcoming film Prague to showcased at the world premiere at 12th Osian’s - Cinefan Film Festival (Asian & Arabic Cinema) on  August 1, New Delhi. I am I playing the lead in an international project called The Pollutant, I am shooting next year with renowned filmmaker Shivajee Chandrabhushan (known for his film Frozen) on his movie Last Summer and I have shot for a 25-minute film as well,” he says.

Despite the long list of international projects, Arfi’s heart lies in good roles and Punjabi cinema. “I want to do Punjabi movies and would love to be a part of Hindi movies, but I also feel it is not the length of the role that is important. I believe as long as I can make an impression and find a place in the minds of the audiences, I am okay with all kinds of roles,” adds the young lad who got his formal training in acting and theatre from Dinesh Thakur.

The best part is that we don’t get a sob story of a struggler from him. “I have a production house, so I can say no to certain projects that I don’t feel like doing,” shares Arfi, who also in a hushed voice says how much he relates to Shah Rukh Khan. “SRK has broken all the clichés of Bollywood; I am nowhere near him, but I still feel I will one day achieve what he has. It is a distant dream, but I am ready to work, ready for opportunities that will come my way and of course yearning to see a proud smile on my parents’ face,” he finishes in speed.

Filmi talk

Rohit Khaitan’s upcoming movie as a co-writer and producer, Prague, is a psychological thriller that takes you to the darkest corners of your mind, shut down alleys of your soul, and to the graveyard of your heart.

The story revolves around a Czech gypsy girl looking for her true identity and love. Add to that a mean friend you can't get away with and can't trust at all. And a left out- left over of someone who isn't really there, but doesn't leave you alone.

“I was doing a cover shoot in Prague, looking around the place. It was then that the story germinated in my mind. The rest, as they say, is history,” says this commerce student from Delhi.

Rohit has already worked as an assistant director with Anurag Kashyap. “I like writing concepts that have some art and commerce to it. And this is what the art of movie-making is all about.” The film is shot in the beautiful city of Prague, the capital of Czechoslovakia, a city known for its history of heritage, myth and superstition.

The essence of the story is very Indian. Prague is one such film from India that articulates a perfect amalgamation of the two cultures.

Pooja to debut in Bolly world

Model-turned-actress Pooja Salvi has got her big Bollywood break as the lady has bagged Rohan Sippy’s untitled directorial venture. Pooja will be playing Ayushmann Khurrana’s love interest in the film.

Rohan wanted to cast a fresh face for the role since he felt that a known face could hamper the script. Says Bhushan Kumar, the producer of the film, “She is a well-known model and Rohan wanted a new face. We were very clear from day one that any established girl would hamper the script. It is a different kind of a role and an established girl would come with an image. Rohan met quite a few girls and finally liked Pooja. We are very happy with her.”

Also, starring Kunal Roy Kapoor, the film will also feature Abhishek Bachchan in a cameo and is co produced by Ramesh Sippy.

Spoilt in love

Aditya Chopra has gifted his alleged lady love Rani Mukerji an all new Audi car worth over a crore of rupees! The marriage is very much on the cards and will be a private yet grand affair.

Kareena on being Heroine

The poster and trailer of Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine were launched at a suburban multiplex earlier this week. She looked gorgeous in a red jumpsuit with red lipstick and hair tied in a ponytail. Her confidence and "I am the best" attitude were in place. She talks about the highly-anticipated movie.

On delays

I refused Heroine earlier because I did not have dates to do it. I was busy shooting Ra.One, Bodyguard, Agent Vinod and a couple other movies. Heroine is such a movie that needed all of my time.  It was in my destiny so it came back to me and I shot it in one go and concentrated solely on it. We shot the movie in 75 days.

On costar

Mahie Arora is edgy, aggressive, over-emotional, and eccentric. She does not think. Madhur Bhandarkar calls her satkeli. I just followed the script and Madhur Bhandarkar. I did not do any research. I do think and am more careful while making decisions.

Living the dream

Ever since I was a child, I wanted to become a heroine on growing up and here I am. I would dance in front of the mirror, I would look at myself in the mirrors in school, I was not interested in education. My dream has come true with Madhur Bhandarkar's film and my journey so far. This film is not about one heroine. It is part fiction and part non-fiction. There are too many people in the industry who will identify with the movie. This story is kind of tragic and I hope I do not end up like that. I don't think I will, my life seems more sorted than Mahi's.

No comparisons

I think it is unfair to compare this movie to The Dirty Picture because that movie was about an item girl and her rise to stardom and it was a biopic set in the 1980s in the South film industry. This is a modern story and is about a mainstream heroine or superstar and is set in Bollywood.

Number game

I am not here to fit into anyone's shoes. I am comfortable in my shoes and nobody else fits into my size. I am not going anywhere. I think I will be like Zohra Sehgal and will act till I am 90. I hope the day never comes when I don't have movies to do. And if and when the offers stop rolling in, I hope I am happy and content in my family life already. That is my wish for myself.

Braving the odds

Sonakshi Sinha who recently shot an item number for Akshay Kumar’s film Oh My God has suffered soreness in her eye while filming for it.

The song Go Go Govinda, which is themed around Gokulashtami was to be shot in three days but as of Sonakshi’s eye got hurt it had to be delayed by a day.

“Sona came to the sets very thrilled about the song. Although, towards the climax of the song, there is a lot of water-splash and colours are thrown at each other, in keeping with the festival. Since the actress was wearing contact lenses, some of the colour and water got into her eyes and she was unintentionally hurt. As a result, the shooting had to be stalled for a day,” says a source. The song Go Go Govinda is inspired by a Tamil hit song Govinda Govinda from Engeyum Eppodhum. Produced by Akshay Oh My God is the adaptation of a play Kishen Vs Kanhaiya and stars Paresh Rawal in a pivotal role. Akshay plays the role of God in the film.

However, Sonakshi, who showcased her dancing prowess in Rowdy Rathore, refuses to compare her song in the film to an item number.

“It’s a special song. It was even more special because Prabhudheva choreographed it. I had a great time shooting for it,” she had said.

X-Factor fuels fire

Pop star Britney Spears’ relationship with fiance Jason Trawick has reportedly hit a rough patch, thanks to Spears’ hefty paycheck from talent show X-Factor.

The Toxic singer and her fiance of over 7 months, Trawick, are having major problems in their relationship due to the pressure of her new judging gig, reported a website.

"Their relationship has been majorly rocky ever since she started filming The X Factor. They are constantly fighting about everything, and it isn't good," a source said.

The source also said that Trawick, who became Spear's co-conservator in April, is less than pleased that he has gone from being a big time Hollywood agent to Spear's full-time babysitter.

“When Jason left his job at William Morris Endeavor in May 2011, it was under the impression that he was going to be managing Britney's career, but that hasn't happened. Now he feels like he is the house husband and errand boy in the relationship, and that isn't what he signed up for," the source added. — PTI

Forgive me please!

Actress Kristen Stewart apologised to long-term boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson recently for a recent fling in which she was photographed kissing and embracing the director of her most recent movie, Rupert Sanders.

The 41-year-old director of Stewart's film, Snow White and the Huntsman, also issued a statement on recently saying he was "utterly distraught" over the pain he has caused to his wife and children following his indiscretion with the 22-year-old actress that made headlines around the world.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry," Stewart said in a statement of a publication. A fling between a Hollywood star and her director is nothing new in showbiz, but this one gained widespread attention because of the high-profile people involved.

Stewart, 22, and Pattinson, 26, portray the vampire-human couple of the Twilight series of blockbuster romance movies who are deeply in love in the films. The pair's on-screen romance transferred to their real lives, and they confirmed they were dating in 2010. But they have tried to remain discreet in public and don't often discuss their relationship.

Given their past, Stewart's romantic liaisons with director Sanders, which was reported with photos on celebrity news outlets including many known publications, surprised celebrity watchers and put the trio in a publicly awkward situation. "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together," Sanders said in a statement. British director Sanders is married to model and actress Liberty Ross, 33, with whom he has two children. In a twist befitting of a good Hollywood drama, Ross portrayed the mother to Stewart's Snow White in the Huntsman tale.

Representatives for Stewart and Pattinson did not respond to Reuters' request for comment. Most recently, Pattinson and Stewart were together promoting the upcoming final Twilight film, "Breaking Dawn—Part 2," at San Diego's Comic-Con earlier this month. — Reuters

Go ahead & kiss him

Rachel Weisz has revealed that she is not bothered by Daniel Craig kissing his female co-stars. The 42-year-old actress revealed that it does not bother her when Craig — one of the leading Hollywood heart-throbs — gets steamy on screen.

“It’s just make-believe. It’s a strange job in that way for sure,” a publication quoted her as saying. “We don’t sit around talking about acting but you both understand you’ve got to be flexible.

“Every few months you start a new job,” she said. —ANI

Notes of fame

Pepe Aguilar, the key figure in the new generation of ranchera music, received a star in the recording category on Hollywood's Walk of Fame recently.

"It's an honour for me. I feel honoured to be here on this very beautiful occasion. But, above all, it's an honour for the music I represent," said Aguilar, who was accompanied by relatives, friends and fans, along with Leron Gubler, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Elegantly outfitted in a dark suit and sunglasses, Aguilar unveiled his star, which was No. 2,474 among those bestowed upon celebrities from film, television, radio and music by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

The five-pointed star, contains in gold letters Aguilar's name and the symbol of an old-style phonograph record.

Bromance on stage

The stage of the popular singing reality show Indian Idol 6 has been witness to many a first but when the cast of Kya Super Kool Hain Hum including Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor visited the sets for the fourth gala round it was a sight to behold.

The boys from the upcoming film Kya Super Kool Hain Hum created a fun-filled atmosphere on the sets. They joked, laughed and pulled the contestants leg. But the highlight of the evening was Riteish Deshmukh, who set the stage on fire when he danced with host Hussain Kuwajerwala.

Hussain lifted Riteish’s leg and posed alike Jeetendra and Sridevi like they did in the son Naino mein sapna. The duo impersonated Jeetuji and Sridevi in the funniest way possible. Tusshar too couldn’t control himself and joined them on stage. This impromptu jig had the judges and contestants in splits and jumping off their seats. Now this is called Super Kool entertainment!

While somebody will sing a popular song from his film other will dance or mimic his style. “We are dancing on the hit song bheegi bheegi raton mein and both of us will also mimic the dressing by the actors.

I am a fan of Rajesh Khanna and loved his films, his imitable style of acting. Now to enact his song will be real fun,” comments Dilip Joshi.
