Chandigarh Nod to set up 'Amritsar Haat': Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday gave in-principle approval to set up "Amritsar Haat" over a portion of the vacant building of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Amritsar. An official spokesperson said during a meeting with representatives of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage and senior officers of PUDA, Badal had asked them to prepare a detailed plan to develop a heritage hotel over the remaining portion of the hospital. Govt school health programme launched: The state government has launched a school health programme in order to reduce morbidity among schoolchildren by preventing them from falling prey to preventable diseases and early detection of defects among the children. Disclosing this, Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka said school health teams were carrying out medical check-up of primary and middle school students for various ailments along with their treatment through referral services. Besides, health education to the schoolchildren and teachers was also being imparted, he said. The Minister said the programme had been launched under the Sarv Sikhsha Abhiyaan. Policy to boost renewable energy: Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Monday said Punjab would soon announce an attractive policy to give a big push to the renewable energy sector, especially generating power from biomass and solar energy. Sukhbir constituted a high-level committee under Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh with Secretary, Renewable Energy, Karan Avtar Singh, Secretary, Power, Anirudh Tiwari, as members to give final touches to the policy so that the state could achieve the target of 500 MW power from biomass and 100 MW from solar power. NRI helpdesks: Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has asked Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, who is also Secretary Vigilance, to set up NRI helpdesks at the Vigilance Bureau headquarters and six vigilance ranges at Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and Ferozepur within one month to enable NRIs to file their complaints of harassment or corruption against government officials. Accompanied by NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Sukhbir reviewed steps taken to redress grievances of NRIs. He said 75 per cent of NRI complaints pertained to property disputes with their relatives and 25 per cent comprised of matrimonial disputes. |
