Water samples fail at diarrhoea-affected village
Dera Bassi, June 30 The contaminated water had caused the diarrhoea to spread at the Tiwana village. Patients who were being treated at Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, also told that they had been getting contaminated water supply for the past some days but the concerned officials did not take any step to resolve the problem. They pointed out that the contaminated water was the reason for spreading of dreaded diseases in their village. Over 50 patients were found infected with diarrhoea at Tiwana village. One patient had reportedly died of the disease. Residents of Tiwana village had informed that there was no water supply tube well in the village and they get water supply from the water supply tube well of another village. In the summer season due to shortage of water residents were also bound to get drinking water from hand pumps, which was not safe for drinking purpose. They demanded
the proper supply of safe drinking water in the village. Meanwhile, the SDO public health Sehal Anand said that leakage problems in both villages was found in the water supply connections and it was not found in the main pipes. He ensured that safe
water supply would be provided soon. |

33 get jobs in campus placement
Banur, June 30 In a press release, Prof HPS Sidhu, principal, Shaheed Udham Singh Engineering College (South Campus), said that 18 students of CSE/IT, 12 students of ECE/EEE, 2 students of MCA ,and 1 student of MBA had been selected by MAX Media Technologies for a package of Rs 2.64 lakh per annum. A total of 70 students appeared for the interview out of which 33 students were successfully selected.

Property dealer booked for fraud
Chandigarh, June 30
The complainant said the accused did not invest the money and when he was asked to show the investment, he handed him over a cheque for Rs 10 lakh, which bounced. A case was registered at the police station in Sector 17. The police said Saraswati was absconding and raids were being conducted to nab him.

Five arrested in assault case
Chandigarh, June 30 “On June 29, all five accused met the complainant outside a house in Sector 8 and tried to threaten him,” the SHO said. The complainant somehow managed to escape and approached the police. “The accused were arrested and produced in the court from where they were sent to the judicial custody. Meanwhile, two vehicles used in the crime have also been impounded,” he added. A case under Sections 147, 149, 323, 341 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. |

Man held for stealing laptop
Chandigarh, June 30 Sub-inspector Satnam Singh arrested Naman Sharma, a resident of Sector 7, Panchkula, and recovered the stolen laptop from his possession. Naman was produced before the court today. The police said further interrogation is in progress, which may prove helpful in solving more theft cases. |

Middleman arrested in NDA recruitment scam
Panchkula, June 30 According to information, sleuths of the Central Bureauof Investigation (CBI) had arrested the middleman, who has been identified as Sushmit Thapar, in the alleged recruitment scam of class IV employees at the NDA. As soon as the vehicles arrived in the area, hundreds of curious onlookers gathered at the site. However, the arrested preson could not be confirmed as the police as well as CBI officials feigned ignorance about the incident. The sources said that Sushmit acted as one of the middlemen between the candidates and the NDA establishment officer Suhas Shankar Waghmare, arrested in the alleged recruitment scam. The CBI had earlier arrested Waghmae who had given Rs 30 lakh to Colonel Kulbir Singh after receiving the money from suspect Ramesh Gaikwad. The accused had demanded Rs 4 lakh each, that is Rs 32 lakh, from eight candidates. The amount was negotiated Act to Rs 30 lakh. The candidates and their parents had disclosed that they gave the money to suspect Ramesh Gaikwad who, in turn, handed over the amount to Waghmare, the sources said. |

Motorcyclist killed in accident
Chandigarh, June 30 The police said Sunny, a resident of Sector 29, was injured when his motorcycle was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by Mohinder Singh, a resident of Derabassi, near the Zirakpur barrier yesterday. An injured Sunny was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where he succumbed to injuries. Mohinder Singh was arrested but was later granted bail. Further investigation into the case is going on. In another road accident, a cyclist was inured after he was hit by a car near the Sant Kabir School turn in Sector 26 yesterday. The car was being driven by Jagdeep Singh. A case has been registered against the car driver. Khushi Ram, a resident of Kajheri village, was injured after being hit by a car near the Sector-46/47-48/49 light point today. The car was driven by Karan Sharma, a resident of Sector 11, Panchkula. The cyclist was seriously injured and admitted to the GMCH-32. The car driver was arrested. Later, he was bailed out. |

CRPF constable commits suicide at police station
Chandigarh, June 30 The police has not recovered any suicide note on the body and ruled out any foul play behind the incident. Anish had joined duty a few days ago after spending a long vacation at his house in Kerala. The body was handed over to senior CRPF officials who sent it to Kerala. The police has initiated an inquest proceeding into the incident. |

Kashmiri students beaten up at Barwala
Panchkula, June 30 Sources said, the victim students from the Kashmir valley in their complaint to the college management alleged that a group of students barged into their rooms and started beating them without any provocation. Sources in the college said that earlier, both the groups had heated arguments in the college mess over the meals. However, the issue was resolved after the management intervened in the matter. Chandigarh, June 30 Shivam Bhambri (150), Gurinder Singh (139) and Jaskaranveer Singh (122) hogged the limelight after completing their centuries on the initial day of the match. After wining the toss, the local team lost a quick wicket of Veer Karan Goel, who was snapped by Harpreet off Manraj for one. Later, Jaskaranveer and Shivam commanded the team and added 206 runs for the second wicket. Jaskaranveer was caught by Gagandeep off Amrit Singh for 122 of 131, studded with 12 boundaries and five sixes. Earlier, he scored two back-to-back double centuries against the same opposition. Then joined, skipper Gurinder Singh, who stood tall with Shivam and added 145 runs for the third wicket before Shivam was caught by Brar off Bir Kanwar on the best individual score of 150 off 178 balls. On the other hand, Gurinder ended the day with another century (139 off 126 balls) studded with 18 boundaries and five sixes. In the second match played at the PAU, Ludhiana, the home team was bowled out on 323 runs in 93 overs against Patiala. Chandigarh, June 30 He was equally supported by Parvesh Sharma, who contributed 42 runs in the team’s total. For bowling side, Sushil took three for 36. On the other hand, the visiting side bundled out on the total of 168 runs in the 36th over. The bowler, Ujjwal, was the pick of the bowlers after grabbing four for 25, while his teammate Parvesh Sharma claimed two for 21. For batting side, Anshul (34) and Naveen (45) contributed the lion’s share. Uttkarsh was adjudged the man of the match, while Sourav claimed the best bowler title.
