Truck crushes cyclist to death

A man was crushed to death by a truck near the canal bridge here on Monday. In his complaint to the police, Sarbjeet Singh, a resident of Jaspal Nagar, said he along with his father Tara Singh were coming to the city on bicycles when a speeding truck hit the cycle of his father resulting in his death. The police has booked the truck driver under Sections 209, 304-A and 427 of the Indian Penal Code. The driver is absconding.

Four firms booked for defacing public property

The police has booked four institutions for defacing the public property by putting up boards on electricity poles. These firms are 21st Century Computers, ACE International, Modern Living, Paramount Senior Secondary School. Cases under Section 3 of the Defacement of Punjab Prevention Property of Ordinance Act have been registered against the firms.

Woman's body found:
The police has recovered the body of an unidentified woman who apparently had died due to heatstroke. ASI Sukhdeep Singh of police station Galliara said the body was spotted by a Jalandhar resident who was here yesterday. The woman seemed to have died due to scorching heat.

Urdu classes from July 2: The Language Department, Punjab would be conducting Urdu classes from July 2. In a press statement, the District Language Officer Surjit Singh stated that classes would be held from 5 pm to 6 pm. Aspirants may get details from room number 277 E, District Administrative Complex.

College results declared
: Students of Ramgarhia Girls College excelled in BA III examination conducted by Panjab University. Preeti Bholla stood first with 80.08 per cent, Tajinder Kaur stood second with 77.04 per cent while Sukhmani secured the third position with 75.87 per cent.

Pirated CDs seized: The police seized over 10,000 pirated CDs from a house in the Bapu Dham Colony yesterday. The police got secret information and raided the area.

Body found: The body of a 40-year-old rickshaw puller was found in Sector 47 here yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Iqbal. The police has ruled out a foul play.
