Sector-17 football stadium in pitiable shape
Chandigarh, May 10 The stadium has been turned into a cricket field for an event being organised by the Chandigarh Police and UT Administration. The organisers have removed grass from the centre of the field to create a batting strip. Lighting arrangements have also been made around the field for the comfort of cricket players and poles are being installed at five different places in the ground. Notably, according to the rules of the UT sports department, no organiser or association is allowd to damage the stadiums while organising any competition. "They have asked for a 10-day booking for organising the event. But we are not aware of any kind of damage. As per rule, no organiser can damage property in any stadium," said an official, pleading anonymity. However, the ground here is being used to organise a cricket tourney, with billboards being kept behind the goal post, and poles for lighting being installed right over the touch line of the field. "If such negligence is allowed to go on, the UT sports department might start giving the football stadium or other stadiums for marriage purposes in future. A cricket stadium is already there with all the facilities. What was the need to oragnise this tourney at the Sector 17 football stadium? The UT bureaucrats always give step-motherly treatment to all the games except cricket," said a player. |
