165 wheat procurement centres set up: A total of 165 wheat procurement centres have been set up across Kumaon. A majority of these centres are located in Udham Singh Nagar which is the biggest wheat-producing district in the region. The number of centres established in the district is 143. The remaining have been set up in the plain areas of Nainital and Champawat districts. The administration has been stating over the past few days that farmers would be provided all possible assistance during the procurement of their produce.
Camps for dependents of ex-servicemen:
The calendar for organising free training camps for the dependents of ex-servicemen and those still in the services has been prepared. The camps will be held between April 23 and February 25, 2013, by the District Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Office in Champawat. The venue will be Hawalbagh in Almora. According to the District Sainik Welfare Officer, Champawat, Col Amitabh Negi (retd), a total of four camps will be organised during the current financial year. He has asked the interested candidates to get themselves registered in his office at the earliest.
Two arrested with leopard skin:
Two persons were arrested with a leopard skin in Someshwar on Tuesday. They have been identified as Navin Singh Dosad of Chaani Lavesal and Sanjay Singh of Baijnath. The skin is said to be about 8 ft in length. Further investigations are on in the matter.
Tree falls on moving vehicle, 1 killed:
In a freak accident, the driver of a tractor-trailer was killed when a tree fell on the moving vehicle near Jamaur village on the Khatima-Pilibhit road on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Asif Ali, a resident of Bhud village. He was going to Dhah Dhaki village when the accident took place. He died on the spot.
Demand for cleaning of drains:
Residents of Bhud Maholiya Gram Sabha in the Jhankat area of Udham Singh Nagar district have demanded proper sanitation of their area. They submitted a memorandum to the local administration on Tuesday, demanding that drains in their area be cleaned immediately. They pointed out that drains have not been cleaned for months and heaps of filth can be seen marking every road in their area.
