22-year-old youth killed in accident: A 22-year-old motorcyclist was crushed under the front wheel of a truck late last night. He was dragged for some distance before the truck came to a halt. Ankit Thakur hailed from Una district in Himachal Pradesh and had been residing at Behlana. He was working with the Berkeley Automobiles Limited at the Industrial Area here. Ankit was driving his motorcycle when he was hit by the speeding truck. A case under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A of the IPC was registered at the Sector-31 police station.
The driver of the truck, Jatinder Kumar Pandey of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested and the vehicle was impounded. Ankit sustained serious injuries on the head and other parts of the body. The police was informed and he was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Sector 32. Youth crushed to death under bus wheels: A 22-year-old youth was crushed under the wheels of a bus opposite the tehsil office, near the railway road, here yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Gaurav of the Kurari Mohalla here. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Gaurav was driving a motorcycle and his friend Dushyant riding pillion when a school bus hit them from the opposite direction. Gaurav was crushed under the wheels of the bus. Dushyant sustained multiple fractures. He was stated to be out of danger. A case was registered against the driver of the bus and the vehicle was impounded.

Youth dies: Sunil (23) of Bawwa village, near Kosli, died on the spot when his motorcycle collided with a tractor on the Rewari-Kosli road on Saturday. The mishap took place when Sunil was returning from Rewari to Bawwa while the tractor was on its way to Rewari. The tractor driver absconded after abandoning his vehicle there.
Death: Asha (19) died after she took some poisonous substance by mistake at Sati Colony here on Saturday. She was admitted to the PGIMS, Rohtak, in a critical condition where she died during the treatment. The police, which held inquest proceedings, has treated it as a case of incidental death.

Labourer dead: A labourer working in a commercial complex being developed by a private colonizer on the Barnala road here died due to a fall from the third floor of the building under mysterious circumstances on Saturday night. The body of Ram Parkash, a Rajasthan resident, who worked to grind floor marble, was found lying on the ground near the shopping complex on Sunday morning. It is suspected that due to darkness, he might have fallen from the third floor, where he was working.

Book released: Former minister and Congress legislator from Hisar Savitri Jindal released a book in Punjabi — Jhanjraan Pava De Mitrahere — by Gurpreet Kaur Saini here last
evening. Speaking on the occasion, Jindal said Punjabi literature was not restricted to Punjab. It was equally popular in Haryana and all efforts must be made to encourage Punjabi writers.

14 given wheelchairs at multiple health camp
A multiple health camp was organised by the Red Cross at Goral Chaur Maidan, Champawat, on Saturday afternoon. A blood donation camp and a disability camp were also held. While 36 persons were issued disability certificates at the camp, 14 were given wheelchairs and crutches to help them move about and carry out their tasks. The disabled were also provided information about pension benefits and other schemes launched for their benefit.Storage of pulse polio vaccines
District Magistrate, Champawat, Ashish Joshi has ordered officials of the Power Department to ensure that a regular supply of electricity is made for the storage of pulse polio vaccines in a frozen state. The orders were given at a meeting held on Saturday to chalk out plans for the next phase of the pulse polio campaign which is to be carried out later this month. Five persons, including two women, attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Haldwani on Saturday. They have been admitted to various hospitals of the town. Those who attempted suicide have been identified as Lalita of Bindukhatta, Asif Ali of Jawahar Nagar, Harish of Charail, Mukesh Gupta of Rajpura and Soni of Chorgaliya. Body found in canal
A body was found from a canal in the TP Nagar area of Haldwani on Saturday evening. The deceased is yet to be identified. According to sources, the body of a youth was seen by passersby in a canal near the petrol station in the area. The body was retrieved with great difficulty. It is being assumed that the victim might have fallen into the canal accidentally. Leopard scare in Bhimtal area
Residents of Jangaliya village in the Bhimtal area of Nainital have complained of a leopard scare in the area. They say that a leopard has been seen in the area, which has also consumed several domestic animals. The villagers have demanded that Forest Department officials set up a cage to trap the animal.
