Bus runs over man’s feet

Kalka, March 30
A rashly driven private bus ran over an unidentified man’s feet. The accident occurred near Historic Kali Mata Temple on the National Highway 22.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, Kalka, with multiple injuries from where the doctors referred him to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh.

The driver of the bus managed to flee from the spot. A case has been registered and the police has impounded the bus.

Gang busted, five arrested

Mohali, March 30
The Mohali police has claimed to have busted a gang of robbers by arresting five members of a gang, here today. The police has also recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakh, two motorbikes and several other costly items from them.

The arrested miscreants have been identified as Sahil Kaushal, a resident of Phase 7, Khunia alias Sonu, a resident of Chadoi Nagar (UP) village, Lokender Kumar, Pale Rami and Raj Kumar, all residents of Silavar village, district Shamli Parbudh Nagar (UP).

The Mohali SSP, GS Bhullar, said that with the arrest of the accused several cases of robbery, snatching and vehicle thefts have been solved.

St Stephen’s, School 45, and Baby Model School, Kapurthala, moved into the semi-final round of the Coca Cola Cup defeating Police Public DAV School, Jalandhar, and SGTBPS, Patiala, respectively, here today.

In the first quarterfinal match, the Kapurthala team won the toss and elected to field first. Their decision paid rich dividends as the SGTBPS, Patiala, were bundled out for 98 in 21.4 overs. Karan Pathak 31 and Sukhbir 22 was the main scorer for the SGTBPS, Patiala. Gaganpreet 4 for 23, Jaspreet 4 for 35 were the main wicket takers for Kapurthala.

In reply, Kapurthala scored 101 for 8 in 39 overs. Manjinder (20), Vikram (18) were the main scorers for Kapurthala team. Bupinder Singh 3 for 22, Mandeep Bawa 3 for 26 were the main wicket takers for the SGTBPS, Patiala.

In the second match, local outfit from St Stephen’s got the better of Police Public DAV School, Jalandhar, by 4 wickets. Batting first, the Jalandhar outfits were all out for 174 in 41.3 overs. Himanshu 44, Mansab Gill 31, Nikhil Sukheja 20 were the principal scorers for Jalandhar. Manan Jain 4 for 43 and Gaurav Bedi 2 for 30 shown with the ball for St Stephen’s School. In replying St Stephen’s scored 176 for 6 in 43 overs. Kunwar Pathak 56 and Siddharth Singh unbeaten 67 put on 103 runs for the 3rd wicket. The Jalandhar team bowled a wayward length as they conceded 37 sundries.

SGTBPS, Patiala: 98 all out in 21.4 overs (Karan Pathak 31 and Sukhbir 22, Gaganpreet 4 for 23, Jaspreet 4 for 35).

The 2nd semi-final between St Stephens-45 and Baby Model School, Kapurthala, will be held at the GNPS, Sector 36, Chandigarh at 9.00 a.m.

CRICKET  TOURNAMENT
Mannu fashions BTS-48 win

Excellent bowling performance by Mannu (4 for 15) enabled Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, to enter the seminal after defeating APJ, Kharar, by 16 runs in the 3rd Junior Championship being organised by DP Azad Crikcet Academy.

APJ, Kharar, won the toss and decided to field first. Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, scored 116 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. Manan 31 in 28 and Ayush Sikka 27 in 31 were the main scorers. For APJ, Hardil and Ishu took two wickets each giving away 16 and 23 runs, respectively.

In reply, APJ failed to achieve the target and were bundled out for 100 runs 19 overs. Aakash 27 in 29 and Avinash 22 in 25 were the main scores. For Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, Mannu was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 4 for 15. Robin took 2 for 32.

Shaksham thrashes Udayjot in tennis tourney

The preliminary matches of the two-day Boy Tennis Tournament (U-12) were held at Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, here today.

Shaksham beat Udayjot 8-1 while Ryan beat Nikhil 8-5. Akshit prevailed over Shivam 8-5 and Dhariya beat Ishnoor 8-2, said Pala Ram, organising secretary.

Meanwhile, the following were the other results: Abhinav beat (8-2); Siddharth beat Akhilesh (8-1); Aadhar beat Ryan (8-2); and Harsh beat Shauraya (6-4).

DAV Senior Secondary School-8 win handball championship

Manpreet enabled DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Chandigarh, to lift the Chandigarh State Junior Handball (Boys) Championship defeating CC Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, by 40-37 in finals here today.

Main scorer of winning side was Manavpreet Singh Bawa-14 goals, Vickey-10 goals Deepak-08 goals and Vikash-05. For the loosing team Tarun-12 Rajesh-07 Tulsi-06 and Vikender-03 were the main scorers.

Third place went to Coaching Centre, Sector 42, which defeated CC Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, by 24-23. Main scorers of the winner side were Parminder Singh 8 Vikramjit 7 and Sameer 4 and for the loosing side Navkaran 8 Manish-7 were the main scorers.

In the girls’ section, Coaching Centre-42 Team-B beat Sacred Heart School-26 by 12-08. Main scorers of winner side were Phooljaha scored-3 goals Pooja-2, Jyoti-2 Rekha-1. The main scorers of the loosing side were Arshnoor-3 Tvesha-02 Bramjeet-01 For the third place CC GMSSS-19 beat Coaching Centre-42 Team-A by 15-13. The main scorer of winner side are Navneet 8 Maninder 3 and Kirti 2, and for the main scorers of looser side are Khushbu 05 Kanchan-3 and Aarti-2.
