Woman succumbs to burn injuries:
A woman, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Haldwani for burn injuries sustained here on February 21, has died. She had suffered burn injuries under suspicious circumstances in her house at Kitcha in the Uttam Nagar locality of the town. Her in-laws had told the police that she suffered burn injuries in a stove blast while she was cooking in kitchen. The police is investigating the case.Three dumpers, 2 horse carts seized:
The district authorities in Haldwani have impounded three dumpers and two horse carts which were being used to transport illegally mined material from riverbeds of the Gaula and the Dabka. During routine patrol the officials concerned noticed the vehicles transporting the illegally mined material. However, the vehicles were let off after the imposition of a fine. The horse carts were imposed in the early hours near the Indira Nagar gate. They too were released after the imposition of a fine.Dumper hits train, ripped apart:
Three persons had a narrow escape when the dumper they were travelling in rammed into the Sampark Kranti Express in Haldwani late Tuesday night. The incident took place between the Haldwani and Kathgodam railway stations. The dumper rammed into the engine of the train while it was transporting sand via a kutcha road adjacent to the railway line. The impact of the collision was such that the dumper overturned and the passenger section of the vehicle got separated from it. The railway engine was also damaged.Couple suffer burns in stove blast:
A couple, residents of the Ramnagar Road area, sustained serious burn injuries in Kashipur when a stove burst at their house. Tirath Bahadur and Nando Devi, natives of Nepal who worked as labourers, were injured when the kerosene stove the woman was using to cook meal burst. She was engulfed in fire. In a bid to save his wife, Tirath also seriously burnt. They are undergoing treatment at a government hospital.Villagers threaten stir over power shortage:
Residents of remote Salpad village in the Dhauladevi block of the Danya area of Almora are agitated over the failure of the authorities concerned to restore power supply to the area. They say they have been living without electricity for the past fortnight since the transformer in the area was burnt. Repeated complaints to the authorities concerned failed to bring desired results. They have threatened that they would launch an agitation if power supply to the area was not restored at the earliest. (Compiled by Rajeev
