Swimming pool inaugurated:
Punam Suri, president, DAV College Managing Committee inaugurated a swimming pool and an indoor stadium at BBK DAV College for Women on Monday. He also released Pratha, a magazine of DAV International School. On the occasion, students of BBK DAV College, DAV Public School and DAV International School sung holy songs.

Rs 33,000 donated to govt school: In the memory of Jaswant Singh Sohal, a resident of Makowal village in Ajnala here, his wife Ratanjeet Kaur and his brother Navinder Singh donated Rs 33,500 for a water purifier to be installed at Government Senior Secondary School, Sudhar here.school principal Aman Sharma expressed gratitude to Ratanjeet and Navinder said late Jaswant Singh and Navinder Singh had received their primary education from the school and wished to do something for the school. He said they have donated a checque of Rs 33,500 to the school. He said the school authorities have already placed an order for the same water purifier.

MC budget on March 16:
The annual budget of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will be presented on March 16. According to the information, the budget will be presented at the Zone A office of the Ludhiana MC situated in the Mata Rani Chowk area at 10 am.

A moderate intensity earthquake rocked the Kashmir valley in the morning today. Coordinator of the Natural Disaster Management Cell Aamir Ali said an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude occurred in northwest Kashmir at 11.36 am.

After Holi holidays, trains, buses witness heavy rush: Public transport in the Kumaon region faced a heavy rush of passengers after Holi holidays. Both trains and buses leaving the region were packed as people who had come home for Holi were now returning to their respective places of work. The people of the region, particularly students and government employees, had been on holiday since the counting of votes on March 6. With the next two days already announced as holidays, they got another holiday on Friday. Most of the people decided to stay at home at weekend.

Cyclist killed in accident: One person was killed when his cycle was hit by a mini-truck in the Kitcha area of Udham Singh Nagar district. Braj Kishore, 50, a resident of the Bhimnagar area of Uttar Pradesh, was on his way to Purnagiri Dham when the mini-truck hit him from behind on Sitarganj Road. He was crushed to death. The truck driver, Surjit, a resident of Purana Galla Mandi in Kitcha, tried to flee after the accident but was caught by passersby, who thrashed him and handed him over to the police.

Burglar arrested: A youth trying to attempt burglary in a locality in Rudrapur was nabbed by residents of the area. They thrashed him and handed him over to the police. Munna, a resident of the Dongpuri area of Gadarpur, allegedly tried to burgle a house in the Nai Basti Kheda locality but was trapped when the owner of the house, Gyan Prakash, heard some noise. Gyan along with his family members called his neighbours. They thrashed Munna and later handed him over to the police. Investigation into the case was on.

Freedom fighter dead: A freedom fighter and member of the Azad Hind Fauj, Jeet Singh Rumal, died at his house in the Ratanpur locality of the Jhankat area of Udham Singh Nagar district. He was 95. Rumal hailed from the Rumsakun area of Pithoragarh and was residing with his elder son. It is learnt that he had quit his job in the British Army to join the Azad Hind Fauj floated by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He had gone on to serve the Indian Army after Independence.

Property dealer killed in mishap: A property dealer was killed while his son was injured when the car in which they were travelling crashed into the side of a bridge, near Kashipur. The deceased has been identified as Lakhendra Singh Rajput, who was also a prominent BJP worker. Lakhendra, along with his son Vishal and a friend, was going to Banskhedi village to attend a marriage when the accident took place. While he died on the spot, his son was seriously injured. The injured is admitted to a hospital in Moradabad.
