Court for ‘Holistic’ view

Taking cognisance of so many city residents being compelled to repeatedly approach the court against the “inaction” of the UT Administration officials in transferring the title of properties in the Estate Office records, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today made clear its decision to take a “comprehensive view” of the issue.

Court gives April 1 as deadline to Administration
Chandigarh, March 7
Trudging towards making Sector 17 once again a walkers’ paradise, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today told the Chandigarh Administration to earmark two vital parking areas of the downtown as no vehicle zones after 4 pm. The Bench also made it clear that the Administration would enforce the decision by April 1 after finalising the modalities.

“If we had tried, we could have saved Amit’s life.” The conclusion of the Vigilance report submitted to SP RS Ghuman today sums up the story of the insensitive, callous and indifferent attitude of the Khaki brigade towards Amit Garg, a man who came knocking at its door on February 22 with his mother’s body and eventually committed suicide at a hotel in Mohra (Ambala), with the woman’s day-old body lying in his car parked outside.

P’kula to check drunken driving

The Panchkula police has decided to deal strictly with hooligans on the festival of Holi on Thursday. The deployment of 450 police personnel will put the brakes on drunken driving in Panchkula.

Every year after Holi, doctors receive many patients with burning and itching eyes, and some with severe injuries, which can lead to blindness. Three humiliated for playing Holi with friends at girls’ college
Chandigarh, March 7
Playing Holi along with their friends on the campus of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, landed three students of DAV College, Sector 10, in trouble after they were caught by the college security today. The students were paraded to the Principal’s office and were let off after the gave an apology in writing. The students had come to the college to collect their participation certificate of a tech-fest organised by the college last month.

Health staffer commits suicide
Chandigarh, March 7
A person in his mid-40s allegedly committed suicide at his residence in sector 20 here this morning. Suraj Mal, who worked as a safai karamchari in the Health Department, committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope from a pipe in the bathroom in the wee hours.

Gajendra made CLTA coach

Even as trainees at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) are not ready to accept less than the reinstatement of their former director coaching, Gurvarinder Singh, the authorities have appointed international tennis coach, Gajendra Singh, on the post today. Gajendra who was preparing Bangladesh team for the forthcoming Davis cup, will take the charge of director coaching as and when he returns, said the CLTA president Jai Singh Gill.
