Purse snatched
: A resident of Ranjit Avenue Arwinder Kaur Sidhu has lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police that some identified persons had snatched her purse while she was on her way back home. She said on March 4 at 11:30 pm when she reached near Green Avenue, the accused snatched her purse containing Rs 45,000, a mobile handset and a diamond set. A case under Section 382/ 34 of the IPC and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered on the basis of her complaint.

Intoxicants seized: The Chheharta police has arrested Kahna Ram, a resident of Kot Khalsa, for allegedly possessing intoxicants. According to the ASI Sukhwinder Singh, 445 capsules of Parvon spas have been seized from his possession. A case under Section 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.

Car stolen: Sivans Kapoor, a resident of State Bore Colony on Parkash Chand road said some unidentified persons stole his car from the parking lot of Celebration Mall. He said he had parked his car Honda city (PB-02 BE 7771) in the parking lot. “Yesterday evening, during the interval of a movie, I noticed that someone had stolen the keys as well as parking slip of my car. Later, I discovered that my car was not there in the parking lot,” he said. ASI Narain Singh of A division police station said a case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered and a search is on to nab the culprits.

Apeejay wins trophy
: The Apeejay Institute of Management Technical won the overall trophy in “Colors”, a management fest, hosted by the CT Institute of Management and IT, Maqsudan. Out of the total 12 events held, the Apeejay Institute of Management bagged the maximum number of prizes in events like ad world, creative thinking, collage making, treasure hunt and much more. The college bagged four first positions, one second position and two third positions in the fest.

70 huts of labourers destroyed in fire: As many as 70 huts of labourers engaged for mining operations on the Gaula riverbed near the Bedipadav gate in Haldwani were gutted in fire on Sunday. It is learnt that children and pet animals were in the huts when the fire broke out. However, with great difficulty they managed to escape before the labourers could respond to their cries for help. The cause of the fire is yet not known. Eyewitnesses say that they saw smoke coming out of one of the huts and the fire spread quickly to other huts due to fast blowing wind. The labourers have come from Mainpuri, Bareilly and Etawah in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and Jharkhand to work in Haldwani.

Protesting villagers block road: A large number of women from Bhagwan Singh Nawear village near the Halduchaur area of Haldwani and its surrounding areas blocked the road near the Bedipadav gate on the Gaula riverbed on Sunday. Residents of the village are agitated over the failure of the authorities to check the menace of wild animals. They are demanding immediate steps to check the movement of wild animals that have become a potential threat to human lives.

Man crushed to death: One person was killed when his vehicle was hit by a speeding car on the Nainital highway in Haldwani. The deceased identified as 55-year-old Rajesh Kumar, a resident of the Jawahar Jyoti locality in the Damuadhunga area of Haldwani, was changing a punctured tyre of his vehicle when the mishap occurred. He came under his vehicle and was crushed to death. He was rushed to hospital where he died. A case has been registered. The police is trying to nab the car driver.

Scolded by mother, girl commits suicide: A 12-year-old girl, Asha, allegedly committed suicide after her mother scolded her over a trivial matter in the Pakka Kheda locality of Rudrapur town in Udham Singh Nagar district on Sunday. It is learnt that Beena Biswas had scolded Asha and had gone to different households where she worked as domestic help. In her absence, Asha hanged herself with the help of a scarf. Some children noticed Asha hanging from a ceiling fan. The police is investigating the case.

Miscreants torch two cars: Miscreants torched two cars belonging to Nandan Singh in Mandalsera village of Bageshwar district on Sunday. Earlier, miscreants had torched his motorcycle on Shivratri. The persons responsible for the incident were yet to be identified. The police is investigating the case.
