Panchkula, February 14
Leave aside the common man, the Panchkula police has failed to deliver justice to even its own men, especially in cases where errant drivers knocked down policemen at nakas. Though criminal cases were registered swiftly against such drivers, the accused were acquitted in as many as four cases. In two other cases, policemen failed to identify the attackers.

Vivek Pratap new MC Commissioner

After a long gap of nearly a year, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) will finally have Vivek Pratap Singh, a 1996 batch Punjab IAS officer, as the new Commissioner. Prena Puri, a 2006 batch IAS officer who was given a temporary charge, was officiating as the Commissioner ever since Roshan Sankaria was repatriated to his parent Punjab cadre in April 2011.

Former PGI Director to join Max
Chandigarh, February 14
Former PGI Director and cardiologist, Dr KK Talwar, is set to join the Punjab Government and Max Health Care’s public private partnership (PPP) venture of a 200-bedded Max Hospital at Mohali. He is also the Chairman of the Medical Council of India.

Immigration firm office sealed

The special investigating team (SIT) of the UT Police formed to crack dubious immigration firms today sealed the main head office of the World Wide Immigration and Consultancy Services (WWICS) in Mohali. A search was conducted and the police questioned as many as 150 employees of the firm.

Gangrape on wheels
Police opposes accused’s plea to turn approver
Panchkula, February 14
In the infamous case of gangrape on wheels in Panchkula, in which two students had raped their friend’s minor sister, the Panchkula Police today opposed the application filed by the accused, Marshal Arora, who wants to turn prosecution’s approver.

Congress leader suspended from party
Chandigarh, February 14
Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) president BB Behl, today, dismissed former Mayor and vice-president of CTCC Surinder Singh, from the party, for anti-party activities. Surinder Singh was dismissed for six years from the party for anti-party activities during the MC polls held last year.

68 challaned for traffic violations

The UT police was on its toes on Valentine’s Day and challaned 68 persons for violating traffic rules on the geri route. Those challaned include 24 challans for overspeeding.

Four booked for abducting minor
Mohali, February 14
The police today booked four persons, including a woman, for abducting a minor girl from Mullanpur. The accused have been identified as Manjit Kaur, Baljit Singh, Sahil and Kamal.

Mobile phones stolen
Chandigarh, February 14
Ram Lakhan of Ram Darbar alleged that a minor was caught red handed stealing two mobile phones from his house today. A case has been registered at the Sector 31 police station and the case is under investigation.

Chandigarh, February 14 Punit of Sector 15 reported to the police that someone had stolen his laptop from his house yesterday. A case has been registered at the Sector11 police station.

PCA holds workshop for umpires

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) in an effort to update umpires about the latest rules and regulations of the game, organised a workshop, here today. The workshop was also aimed at ensuring that the upcoming cricket season is conducted smoothly. 18 umpires from various districts of the state took part in the deliberations and practical demonstrations.
