Road mishaps claim 3 lives
Chandigarh, February 9
Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in the city in the last 24 hours. While a milkman of Dhanas was crushed to death by a speeding Cruze car in Sector 35 this morning, a cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run case in Sector 18 last night. In another case, an unidentified person was killed by an Innova car in Sector 43 last night.

Aspiring singer ends his life
Chandigarh, February 9
Kunaldeep Gautam (19), a youngster aiming to be a singer, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Sector22 here today.

6 advocates booked for misusing high court symbol
Chandigarh, February 9
Six advocates were today booked by the Chandigarh Police for misusing the symbol of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and using it on their website. Those booked include a father and son duo residing in Sector 21 here.

Midnight ‘shock’ for panel members

Municipal Corporation mulls house tax imposition

After prolonged discussions and despite vehement opposition by different resident associations, the Municipal Corporation has finally decided to consider imposing house tax in the city. In fact, the MC is also bringing up the agenda for the revision of the commercial property tax along with the property tax in the forthcoming house meeting on February 16.

Inquiry marked into infant’s death

Even as the GMSH-16 authorities today marked an inquiry into the allegations of negligence in the death of an infant yesterday, CCTV footage viewed by the hospital officials belies the claim of the deceased's family that there was a delay of half an hour by doctors in attending to the infant.

PSEB issues notices to 820 schools

Even as the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is gearing itself for the March examinations to be held through the semester system, it has issued notices to 820 schools for failing to submit grades of internal assessment of their students who appeared in the semester exams in September 2011.

Man acquitted in murder bid case

The court of District and Sessions Judge SK Goel today acquitted a 24-year-old youth in an attempt to murder case. The court acquitted Vishal Sharma, a resident of Dhanas, who was booked in an attempt-to-murder case in 2009.

Undertrial booked for threatening witness in court

A day after Amir Kamboj, an under trial in a case of dacoity threatened and slapped a witness on the district court premises, here. The police has booked the accused under Section 195-A (threatening someone to give false evidence) of the IPC. A case has been registered at the Matour police station.

Jalam Singh, a resident of Sector 26, complained to police that three unknown persons assaulted him yesterday. A case under Sections 308, 323 and 506 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 26 police station.
