City Centre case adjourned:
Sessions Judge SP Bangarh today adjourned the hearing in the alleged multi-crore City Centre scam case involving former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, his son Raninder Singh and other persons to February 18.

‘MBA & Beyond’: IMS Ludhiana took an initiative by arranging a mega learning event “MBA & Beyond” for all graduating students of Ludhiana here on Saturday. IMS’s all-India head of academics, Tony Xaviers (IIM Lucknow, GMAT 750 scorer), shared valuable inputs with students on “Changing trends of CAT” and “Tips on how to crack MBA entrance exam, GDPI”. Around 150 students participated in the event. IMS-Ludhiana’s CAT/MBA exams faculty conducted a quiz, in which six teams participated.

Rickshaw-puller commits suicide:A 40-year-old rickshaw-puller, who was suffering from a prolonged ailment, committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling fan in Amarpura here today. The deceased, identified as Deepak Shah, was alone in the house when he committed suicide. According to the police, the victim’s wife had gone to visit her relatives when the victim committed suicide.

Amitabh to perform in New Zealand:
Amitabh Chandel, convener Sports Cell Congress Haryana will be participating in Oceania Masters Athletics Championships. The championship will be held from tomorrow at Tauranga, New Zealand. Amitabh will participate in 60 mt, 100 mt, 200 mt and long jump in men’s 45 plus category.

Budget session from March 12:
The Budget Session of the Himachal Vidhan Sabha will be held from March 12 instead of March 1 as announced earlier.The session will conclude on April 6, 2012, as recommended by the state Cabinet earlier. The decision has been taken in view of the fact that the Budget session of Parliament will start from March 12 due to Assembly elections.

Fire at eating joint in Nainital:A fire broke out at an eating joint in the Mota Haldu area of Lal Kuan in Nainital district. The fire was caused by a short circuit. The incident took place just after the owner of the joint had closed the shop and gone home. But by the time he arrived at the scene everything had been gutted.

Gram pradhan killed in mishap:A gram pradhan was killed while nine others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Pithoragarh district. The accident took place near Suvalekh village. The victims were part of a marriage party that was returning home to Rodpali. The deceased has been identified as Jagdish Singh (35) who was the gram pradhan of Swarpali. The mishap took place when the driver lost control over the vehicle.

Case of fraud registered:The Kashipur police has registered a case of fraud against the management of a company for having “duped” investors to the tune of Rs 58 lakh. The case has been registered on the directions of a local court. The complainant in the case, Pawan Kumar, has accused managing director Shailendra Kumar Razak of Raipur and Sachin Kumar of Subhash Nagar locality of attracting the investors on the pretext of offering better financial returns and then fleeing with the money.

Girl child drowned in canal:A girl child drowned after falling into a canal in the Ramnagar area of Nainital. The incident took place when Pinki, who was under two, was playing outside her house in Dayarampur Tanda village. Her mother was busy Kumaon Briefscooking inside. The body of the child had floated away for almost one km before it was noticed by a farmer.

Residents rue poor sanitation:Residents of Tanakpur are facing hardships due to poor sanitation in the town. They said heaps of filth could be seen all over the town and repeated requests to the authorities to get it removed had gone unheard. They said an outbreak of water or air-borne diseases could not be ruled out in the prevailing scenario. The residents have threatened to launch an agitation if the matter is not addressed at the earliest.
