Saha industrial growth centre remains a distant
dream
Ambala, January 31 In 1997, the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) had stated that the first phase of the project would be completed in April or May, 1998. About 25 to 35 per cent of the industrial units have been shifted to the industrial centre so far. Plot holders said it was not possible to shift the units. As a consequence of which entrepreneurs in Ambala are a disgruntled lot. At a time when they are fighting a battle against recession, the step-motherly attitude of the local political leaders and bureaucrats is only adding to their woes. A conservative estimate puts the number of small industrial units in Ambala at about 600 to 700 and these are presently located in residential areas in Ambala Cantt manufacturing scientific equipment. The owners of these units have been demanding that they could undertake expansion and modernisation of their units if they had space and required infrastructure. Entrepreneurs said the Central government had announced to set up 101 industrial growth centres in the country and it was decided that two centres would be established in Haryana i.e. one at Saha and the other at Bawel. Both the projects were sanctioned by the Central government, but unfortunately, the Saha project has remained confined to government files in spite of the Centre’s clearance. Assistant general manager of the HSIDC said land was being acquired from farmers for setting up the second phase of growth centre. The entrepreneurs are wary of this and maintain that where was the reason and provocation for developing the second phase of the centre when the first phase itself needed to be developed. |
