Official transfers: The state government on Friday ordered that ML Kaushik, DC, Fatehabad, will also look after the work of DC, Sirsa, till a new officer takes over as DC, Sirsa. RC Verma, who was earlier transferred as Administrator, HUDA, Faridabad, has now been posted as Director, Industrial Training. Amneet P Kumar will continue as Administrator, HUDA, Faridabad.

Para legal volunteers: Para legal volunteers should work as an essential link between the District Legal Services Authority and the people in the district so that weaker sections of society and those in far-off villages can take full benefit of the free services and legal assistance provided by the authority. This was stated by District and Sessions Judge Sushil Kukreja, who is also the chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, while presiding over the concluding function of a day-long training of para legal volunteers at the District Judicial Complex here on Friday.

Minister hits out at Cong
: IPH Minister Ravinder Ravi has flayed the Congress criticism on reduction of cement prices by just Rs 25 per 50 kg bag in the state. In a press note issued here on Friday, the minister said it was for the first time that the corporate sector had been forced to reduce the prices of a decontrolled item in the interests of the general public. He said during its stint in power, the Congress failed to take any steps for regulating the cement prices in the state.

Woman dies of burns: A 44-year-old woman on Friday succumbed to her burn injuries in the Tanda medical college. She was admitted to the hospital on January 1 with 80 per cent burn injuries. The police said Suman Bala, wife of Ishwar Das, a resident of Nurpur, received burn injuries when her clothes caught fire in the kitchen from a stove.

Office-bearers of Kardar Sangh: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Kardar Sangh: president- Dot Ram Thakur; vice-president - Purshotam Sharma; general secretary - TC Mahant; joint secretary - Bhog Ram Rana; and treasurer - Saligram. The elections were conducted by officiating president Hira Lal. The Kardar Sangh is the main body which looks after the religious rituals and traditions of the god and the goddess of this valley.

Grant-in-aid  for HPU: : A member of the executive council of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Waryam Singh Bains, on Friday said the authorities must plead its case for enhancement in the grant-in-aid from the state government from Rs 50 crore to Rs 62 crore to be able to meet its liabilities. Bains said the university required a minimum of Rs 25 crore to meet its liabilities on account of arrears, pension, dearness allowance and other payments due to the employees.

Republic Day function: Governor Urmila Singh will preside over the Republic Day function on the Ridge here on January 26. Chief Minister PK Dhumal and Education Minister ID Dhiman will also be present at the state-level Republic Day function here on the Ridge.

Campaign to register voters: Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan said on Friday that a special campaign was being conducted to register eligible young voters in all 68 Assembly constituencies of the state till January 15. He said photo electoral rolls had been published on January 5 with January 1 as the qualifying date. He urged the voters to verify their names in the voters’ lists, which were available in the offices of the registration officers (ADM/SDM) and assistant registration officers (tehsildars/naib tehsildars) concerned.

Olympics run: Under the aegis of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, the National Federation for the Development of Sports for People with Intellectual Disabilities will organise special Olympics ‘Law Enforcement Torch Run’ on January 8. Regional Director of the special Olympic Dr Amitav Mishra said, “About 2,000 people from all walks of life are participating in the run along with the disabled the disabled persons. Lt-Gen Manvendra Singh, IMA, would flag off the run. Starting from Gandhi Park, the run would finally culminate at SSP’s residence.” “The run is conducted with an aim to encourage people to work in teams and to create awareness about human rights,” he added.
