Postal Department dashes job seekers’ hopes
Sirsa/Fatehabad, January 5 This is what exactly happened to as many as 148 speed post letters packed in a bag, which a woman Om Pati found lying on the roadside near Ding Road on the Sirsa-Fatehabad road. Om Pati took that bag to her village, Bodiwali, where Ram Murti, Gulshan Kumar and Anil Kumar, all members of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Club, found that the bag contained letters sent to various destinations from Ellenabad town of Sirsa through the speed post service of the Postal Department. Many of these letters were applications for government posts sent by Rajinder Kumar, Neelam, Parvati, Pawan Kumar and others hailing from Ellenabad town and neighbouring villages. Members of the village club said they later brought the bag to Fatehabad and deposited it with the main post office there. Inquiries from the post office in Ellenabad revealed that the bag containing 148 speed post letters was given to the driver of a Haryana Roadways bus according to the daily routine on Wednesday. The driver was supposed to deliver the bag at Sirsa bus stand, post office sources said, adding that the Postal Department paid for this service to the Haryana Roadways. KK Bishnoi, Post Master in the main post office at Sirsa, said he was unaware of the incident. |
50 top cops in ‘defaulters list’ for failure to file property returns
Chandigarh, January 5 In fact, despite repeated reminders to the state governments, senior cops continue to mock at the directions of their controlling ministry — the MHA — a development which will deny them necessary vigilance clearance to be considered for promotion or empanelment for senior level posts at the Centre or abroad. A close look at the “defaulters list” of the MHA (updated on its website on December 30) revealed that the seniormost police officer failing to file the IPR is Brijinder Rai (1974), Haryana’s Director-General/Officer on Special Duity (Rules) followed by Vipin Kumar, a 1975 batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, who is currently posted as Adviser (Security), Indian Oil Corporation, New Delhi. Punjab’s ADGP and Vigilance Bureau chief Sumedh Singh Saini (1982) is the seniormost officer from Punjab. VK Bhawra and Ishwar Chander, IGPs of the intelligence and Jalndhar Zone, respectively, also believe in keeping their assets a closely-guarded secret. Commissioner of Police of Amritsar and Ludhiana Rajinder Prasad Mittal and SS Chauhan have also failed to file their property returns. The other Punjab police officers, who did not file their property returns are Anil Kumar Sharma. Ramesh Chandra Singh, Sham Lal, Kanwaljit Singh, Arun Kumar Oraon, Narinderpal Singh, Varinder Kumar, Satish Kumar Asthana, Naresh Kumar, Davinder Singh Garcha, Surinder Singh, Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, Vijay Pratap Singh Kunwar, Shiv Kumar Verma, Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Inderbir Singh, S Bhoopathi, J Nilambari Vijay, Kuldeep Singh. The list of other Haryana officers includes the names of Rajeev Sagar Sharma, Laik Ram Dabas, BK Sinha and PS Ahlawat. As many as eight police officers from Himachal Pradesh, Prithvi Raj, Ahmed Payam Siddique, Jog Raj Thakur, Rithwik Rudra, Anand Pratap Singh, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, KK Indoria and G Sivakumar, also figure in the list. Vinay Kumar Singh, Abdul Qayoom Manhas, Saji Mohan, Avtar Singh Bali, Kastoori Lal Bhagat, Abdul Hamid, Uttam Chand, Amit Kumar, Neeva Jain, Tejinder Singh, Abdul Jabbar and Udayabhaskar Billa are officers from the strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir, whose names figure in the list. While it is mandatory for all public servants to file their annual immovable property returns, the Central Government had earlier this year decided to put details of assets of all serving IPS officers in the public domain. |
Power crisis deepens as 3 units trip due to fog
Panipat, January 5 The sources said the transmission load crashed from 3,345 MW to 2,375 MW. Unit number 3 of the thermal plant had also tripped due to some technical snag while unit number 2 was reportedly down for the past 10 days. Following the tripping, the generation dropped from 1,900 MW to 1,140 MW and cities, including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak Panipat and Karnal, faced long power cuts. The thermal units were revived one by one at an interval of 15 minutes after 9 am. Meanwhile, the sources said that the 600 MW Khedar unit 1 was under maintenance since December 1 as it had developed a leakage in the boiler and was also facing some other technical problems. The unit was scheduled to be revived on December 15 but till date, it has not started generation. The 300 MW thermal unit number 2 at Yamunanagar thermal power plant is down since September 25, last year, due to high turbine vibrations and entry of water in the turbine. The damage to turbine bearings and rotor of the turbine could not be attended to locally and the rotor had been sent to China for repair, the sources said. The state was facing cuts ranging from six to eight hours daily and unscheduled power cuts were adding to the misery of the people in these cold, winter days. The state has been recording a shortage of 170 lakh units daily, while power availability was of 865 lakh units. The maximum shortage during peak hours varied between 1,450 to 1,650 MW, the sources said. The shortage has already taken its toll on the state industry which is reeling under heavy cuts and the use of diesel generators had increased the cost of production by around 30 per cent, which has reduced the profit margins of the manufacturers. |
Inderjit plans show of strength
Chandigarh, January 5 Ved Prakash Vidrohi, a former spokesman of the Haryana Congress and a close associate of Inderjit, says the rally is not against any leader of the party. The intention of the MP behind the rally, he said, was to maintain the traditional vote base of the Congress so that the party could be strengthened ultimately. He said all those Congressmen who believed in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should participate in the Mahendragarh rally so that they could have a feedback about the aspirations of people. However, he admitted that the rally was being organised so that all the 90 Assembly seats and all areas of the state received equal share in government resources and employment opportunities. The demand, somehow, seems to echo what the Opposition says to criticise the Hooda government. Even the Gurgaon MP does not mince words when he says at public meetings being organised to mobilise people for the Chetna Rally that
southern Haryana and old partymen were being ignored by the government. Vidrohi said a demand would be raised at the rally for supply of canal water to southern Haryana, which had been devoid of assured irrigational facilities in the past 45 years. In the absence of canal water, the government must ensure the supply of electricity for a minimum of 12 hours for irrigation in this part of the state. Insisting that the Congress in the state was not a private property of a particular region or an individual, Vidrohi said the objective of Inderjit Singh was to unite all 36 communities of the state in favour of the Congress. He meaningfully added that after the rally, “honest leadership of Inderjit Singh would emerge in the Congress.” Interestingly, the organisers have not invited any big leader, either of the state or from Delhi to the rally. In short, it would be an exclusive show of strength of Rao Inderjit Singh. |
INLD to back SAD in Punjab poll
Chandigarh, January 5 The party has given a call to its workers in the Haryana districts adjoining Punjab to actively campaign for SAD. Chautala and his younger son Abhay Singh, MLA from Ellenabad, would hold meetings of the INLD workers in the districts adjoining Punjab from January 6 to January 10 and depute them for election duty in Punjab. The PAC nominated district conveners to supervise the revision of electoral rolls and to strengthen the party at the grass-root level. The meeting was attended, among others, by Haryana INLD president Ashok Arora, Secretary-General Ajay Singh Chautala, deputy leader of the INLD legislature party Sher Singh Badshami, party spokesman KC Bangar, national secretary RS Chaudhary and former DGP MS

Sex ratio improves in Karnal, up from 813 to 839
Karnal, January 5 Karnal Deputy Commissioner Neelam P Kasni who took the campaign to save girl child as a mission has been explaining the disastrous fallout of skewed sex ratio and telling people that female foeticide was not only
“a crime against humanity but a sin" and this social evil should be eradicated by voluntary support from people by highlighting the importance of girl child and giving her respectable place and due status in the society. There should be no discrimination in bringing
up a boy or a girl child and both should be treated in the same way, a mass pledge programme to save girl child on 6th of every month has also evoked encouraging response and every month about 6 lakh people were being administered an oath as a "reminder" of their duty and responsibility towards girl child. The first mass pledge programme was held
on September 6, 2011, and the fifth such programme would be held tomorrow (January 6) across Karnal district. |
Police tells private security agencies to get registered
Karnal, January 5 The owners of the security agencies will be liable for action according to the law, if they fail to get their agency registered with the police by the deadline. A large number of business and commercial establishments, hospitals, schools, institutions, houses, showrooms, temples, etc are appointing security guards through private security agencies, but in most of the cases these agencies are not registered and as such in case of an incident of theft or other crimes, the police does not get any assistance from these agencies. The private security agencies were required to verify the character and antecedents and maintain a full record of the persons engaged and submit it to the police, but it was not being done. The Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act 2005 was implemented in June 2005 and the states were required to frame rules under the Act for implementation. The Haryana Government notified the rules under the Act on August 31, 2009, but the implementation of the Act had been tardy and the erring security agencies did not attract any action. Under the rules, no private security agency could engage any person without verifying his character and other antecedents, any person convicted by a court or not trained to perform the job and every registered security personnel will be issued a photo identity card by the police. |
Extortionist out on bail booked
Hisar, January 5 However, the shoe seller,
Himanshu, refused to entertain him. Manoj and his companion then left the shop. The shoe seller, from whom Manoj had sought ransom last year and had fired a shot at him, immediately informed the police who sent an ASI to the shop. The policeman and the shoe seller’s security guard saw Manoj entering the shop sometime later in the evening. As Manoj pointed a pistol at
Himanshu, the ASI pounced on him and snatched the firearm. The culprits tried to escape but the crowd of shopkeepers and shoppers that had gathered there caught hold of them and beat up the duo severely. Later the police took them away and booked them for attempt to murder. The shopkeepers closed their shops in protest against the late arrival of the police. The police said the policemen sent to the market were caught in a traffic jam. Despite the Inspector-General of Police putting in place a special scheme called 3-2-2 to nab criminals, there has been no respite from goondas creating scare among people. There have been several instances of firing and sword brandishing by goondas during the past few days. |
