Over 35 illegal colonies to be regularised soon
Ambala, December 17 The illegal colonies of the city which are to be regularised include Amba Vihar, Ashoka Vihar, Ganesh Nagar, Durga Nagar, BWF Colony, Greater Kailash, Harijan Colony, Hera Nagar, Indira Colony, JJ Colony, Krishna Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, New Ratangarh Colony, New Shivpuri Colony, New Shivalik Colony, Parshuram Nagar, Patel Nagar, Preet Colony, KK Puram, Ram Vihar, Sainik Vihar, Sarasvati Vihar, Shakti Colony, Shankar Colony, Sundar Nagar and Uttam Nagar. The MC had also recommended around five dozens colonies of Ambala Cantonment for regularisation. Recently, the state government has directed the district authorities to conduct a survey of illegal colonies in their areas and send their recommendation for the regularisation of those colonies where 50 per cent structures have come up. The government has also directed that the colonies set up on government, Army and encroachment land should not be regularised at any cost. It is not clarified so far that after the regularisation of those colonies whether the MC will collect development charges from house owners of those colonies or not. After the formation of the MC, a number of surrounding villages have come in the periphery of the corporation. Now the residents of those villages have to approve the site plan of their new construction from the corporation. During last one decade, property dealers have developed around 100 illegal colonies in Ambala City and Ambala Cantt where basic amenities like sewerage, drinking water, roads and even the electricity poles were not provided. The country town planning department and the then municipal council did not stop the property dealers to set up such colonies developing without basic amenities infrastructure. |

Police officials review arrangements to control crime
Ambala, December 17 He informed that necessary directions have been issued to the officials to constitute peace committees at the police stations. In these committees, prominent citizens of the area, who are interested and cooperative, would be included as members of the committees. These members will be issued CLG (community liaison group) badges for their identification. These peace committees will dispose non-cognizable offences in the police stations, small party disputes and public issues. Dhul told the police-public sammelan would be held on monthly basis at the police stations. The problems of the area will be solved on the spot. These sammelans not only make the police working transparent but will also increase public confidence towards the police. He further informed that with a view to control crime and to nab criminals, crime-tracking system will be strengthened. Area of every police station has been distributed in beat/sub-beats. An NGO will be the in charge of beat, whereas head constable will be the in charge of sub-beats. Dhul also told the police would make special efforts to apprehend criminals involved in smuggling of narcotics. |

Woman killed in accident
Ambala, December 17 Meantime, a truck, which was passing from there, crushed the woman to death. The police registered a case against the driver of the truck and the body was handed over to her relatives after a post-mortem. |
Yadav appears in court
Chandigarh, December 17 This was her third appearance in the special court. Earlier, she had appeared in the court on August 27 and November 18. The special CBI Judge, Ritu Tagore, deferred the hearing for January 11. The court adjourned the hearing as the special CBI public prosecutor, Anupam Gupta, sought time to file a reply on the application filed by accused Sanjiv Bansal, wherein he had challenged Gupta’s appointment. Arguments on framing of charges will now be heard on the next date of hearing. Besides, arguments on Yadav’s application seeking permanent exemption from personal appearance in court will also take place. The CBI had filed a charge-sheet against Yadav and other accused for corruption, conspiracy, destruction of evidence and creation of false evidence in the CBI court on March 4. |

Chowhan, president of Jewellers’ Association, Panchkula, brought the issue to the notice of the police alleging that many jewellers have fallen prey to the trickster. During investigation, a degraded and fake gold ring, weighting 5 gm, was recovered, which was exchanged by the accused fraudulently.

Rs 2.20 lakh withdrawn illegally from ATM
Zirakpur, December 17 SHO Zirakpur stated that in his complaint, Ved Prakash stated that a few days ago, he was trying to withdraw money from the ATM of Punjab and Sindh Bank in Zirakpur but failed to use the ATM card properly. He alleged that one of the two youths, present in the ATM, volunteered to help and successfully used the card by withdrawing Rs 10,000 as per the demand of the victim. But the youths allegedly gave him a fake ATM card in place of his original card, which he could not notice. He alleged that later he found that the miscreants had withdrawn the amount by using separate ATM counters. The SHO said after getting the complaint, the police team had started investigations to identify these miscreants with the help of CCTV footage in different ATM counters. He said the miscreants would be arrested soon with the help of CCTV footage.
Man dies in accident
A 45-year-old man died after being hit by a vehicle of the electricity department on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway last night. The deceased was identified as Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Dyalpura village. The incident took place when Sukhdev was moving towards his village from Zirakpur side on his scooter where a speeding vehicle rammed into it near Dyalpura village turn. He fell down on the road and sustained serious injuries. A passerby immediately informed the police about the incident, who took him to a private hospital in Zirakpur where he succumbed to his injuries. The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after conducting a post-mortem. A case has been registered.
Body found
An unidentified body of a woman was found near the Gazipur railway track this morning. The body has been kept for identification at a mortuary for 72 hours in the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. The deceased seemed to be 25-year-old and was wearing blue jeans and shoes. |
