Hundreds of passengers of the 12232 Chandigarh-Lucknow and 12984 Ajmer-bound Garib Rath were stranded at the Chandigarh railway station as the axle of the engine of the Delhi-bound Shatabdi developed a technical snag near Lalru this evening. Hundreds of passengers travelling by the evening Shatabdhi, too, were stranded.

MD orders GM to hold inquiry

2 youths take away 400-gm gold from shop
Ambala, December 5
Two youths decamped with 400-gm gold worth Rs 12 lakh from a shop at Chota Bazar in Ambala City last evening. Pawan Kumar, owner of the shop, said he had bought 400-gm gold from a jeweller for making ornaments. He added that two youths, who were posing as sweepers, took away the bag containing gold from the shop. He reported the matter to the police.

Lawyers seek action against cop

The District Bar Association has sought strict action against Vinod Kumar, in-charge of the Sirhind police chowki for humiliating, insulting and manhandling Navjot Singh Khangura, an advocate, during a naka yesterday. The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum-I has directed Silver City Housing and Infrastructure Ltd to refund Rs 15,72,000 along with 18 per cent interest per annum from respective dates of deposit till realisation.

Rickshaw-puller dies in freak accident
Chandigarh. December 5
A rickshaw puller was killed in a freak accident in Sector 35 by a racing car driven by a 23-year-old engineering student of Indo Global Group of Colleges. The police arrested student Neeraj Rattan, in a case of causing death due to negligence under Section 304 A of the IPC.

A 25-year-old junior doctor of medicine department at the PGI, Dr Shiv Kalyan, has reportedly gone missing. The doctor was staying at the hostel in the institute.

Two killed in accident

Two persons were killed after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding car near Sekhon marriage palace on the Zirakpur-Kalka Highway on Sunday night. The deceased were identified as Lakhveer Singh (30) and Rahul Kumar (18), both residents of Burail, Chandigarh.
