5 armoured regiments to be awarded ‘Standards’
Patiala, November 22 During the ceremony, besides the tanks, Bofors guns would be positioned at artificially created dunes. The presentation of “The Standards” by the Supreme Commander of the armed forces is an apt recognition of the service rendered by the regiments for serving the nation and serves as a motivating factor for the regiment to continue to serve the country with valour, courage and sacrifice. Considered to be a rare honour, "The Standards" would be presented to the armoured regiments in the presence of the Chief of the Army Staff Gen VK Singh. Once the regiment gets the "The Standards", it becomes a distinguished identity of that particular regiment. Meanwhile, in the wake of the scheduled visit of the President and the Chief of the Army Staff and other dignitaries, the Patiala police has made tight security arrangements. The Central security agencies are already camping in the city. The state agencies are coordinating with them to ensure fool-proof security for the ceremony. A dress rehearsal for the ceremony was held today with the Patiala SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill, Punjab DIG Counter intelligence SS Srivastava and other senior officers, visiting the venue. Senior Army officers from the military intelligence also visited the airport on the Sangrur Road, where the President is expected to land on November 27. “The security agencies would seal all the roads leading to the Army headquarters and the venue one hour prior to the event and security has been tightened from today itself”, said Patiala SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill. "No one without valid permission would be allowed inside or near these venues", he said.
What is “The Standard” Only indigenous and high-quality silk/khadi silk is used in making “The Standard”. Gold and silver threads are used for embroidery, which is done on both sides of “The Standard”. The pike used is of high quality ash-wood with French polish, which is fluted in the middle for a mounted regiment and the tassels are appropriate mix of gold and crimson colour. The colours being the reward for group heroism have always symbolised the heart of a regiment. They epitomise the history of the regiment and symbolise the undoubting spirit of the regiment and its acts of valour forged in sweat and blood.

University Business School
Chandigarh, November 22 When the UBS released the list in September, three students appealed to the Vice-Chancellor pointing out that students lower in merit were granted admission bypassing the students who had passed out from UBS. They complained that this amounted to victimisation as M.Com. students of UBS had protested against the then chairperson for using obscene language with girl students. Nothing came out of that complaint apart from delay of two months. After two months, UBS again put up the original list in which students from outside UBS were given admission ignoring the merit in university’s PhD entrance test and marks in M.Com. examination. The students approached the high court which restrained the university from making admissions on the list till further orders. |
