Only three water tankers for watering 3.58 lakh saplings
Ludhiana, November 1
Strange it may seem but the district forest department has only three water tankers to water 3.58 lakh saplings in district. Only one tanker is available for watering 26,500 saplings grown in the MC limits. The forest department has planted 3, 58,500 saplings under various schemes in the district in which 26,500 plants were planted in the urban area under the "Green City Scheme" in this financial year.

Goods worth Rs 14 lakh reduced to ashes
Ludhiana, November 1
Goods worth lakhs were gutted in a fire incident which took place in the Chaura Bazaar area of the city late last night. The extent of fire was such that three shops, made of wood, were literally reduced to ashes and it took the fire-fighters close to three hours to douse the flames. The fire department suspects that short-circuit was the reason behind the fire.

Bakr-Eid
Goat sold for Rs 35,000!
Ludhiana, November 1
It's raining money for goat trader Haji Sitar whose goat has sold for Rs 35,000 setting a tone for the upcoming Bakrid (Eid-ul-Zuha). Haji was expecting more but he had to settle for less due to the impact of inflation but he hopes for a better deal for the rest of his goats in the next few days. With Bakrid (Eid-ul-Zuha) just a week away, the Bakar mandi near Jalandhar Bypass is abuzz and buyers are thronging the place in large numbers.

Rly station getting a hurried makeover
Ludhiana, November 1
High tea and dinner aboard the Ludhiana-New Delhi Shatabdi Express will be served by the railway catering staff and the food items will be supplied by the railway refreshment room. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vishlesh Chaubey said: “Whether the contractor holding the licence for refreshment procures cooked food from outside or prepares it on his own is not our concern.”

Fewer samples of eatables collected this year
Ludhiana, November 1
During the festive season this year, the district health department collected 17 samples less of sweets and other eatables compared to last year. The department had collected 98 samples last year. This year, the number of samples collected are about 80.

The apathetic approach of the Jagraon municipal council officials towards covering a sewerage manhole situated in the middle of DAV College road has left the area residents as well as commuters fumed.
