Rotten ‘paneer tikka’ costs Subway Rs 4,000
Mohali, November 1 The consumer, Jaswinder Kaur of Mohali, in a complaint filed with the forum had alleged that the paneer tikka delivered to her on June 28 was unfit for human consumption. The outlet failed to respond to her complaint and she got the sample tested from the public analyst, Punjab, Sector 11, Chandigarh. The analyst, in his report on July 8, stated that the contents of the eatable “are mould affected and having foul smell”. Hence, it was adulterated and unfit for human consumption, the analyst had observed. The manager of the outlet, in his reply, contended that they always sold fresh items and were never informed about or associated with the test and therefore it was not binding on them. Besides levying the penalty, the forum ordered the outlet to refund the price of the paneer tikka of Rs 309 to the complainant and pay Rs 1,000 as litigation costs. The court also ordered the outlet to deposit Rs 15,000 with the forum “for the loss or injury suffered by other customers”.
