HC: Decide ‘preferably’ within two months
Chandigarh, October 31 The deadline was set by the Bench of acting Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Rajiv Narain Raina on a petition filed by Pankaj Bawa and another petitioner against the UT and another respondent. The directions came after senior standing counsel for UT Sanjay Kaushal accepted the notice on the asking of the court. The Bench observed, “The petitioners, who are working as District Town Planner and Divisional Town Planner, have approached this court with a prayer that they be considered for allotment of government accommodation similar to architect and executive engineer because they are drawing the same pay scale. “In that regard, reference has been made to
the amendment dated August 20, 2010, carried in the Government Residences (Chandigarh Administration General Pool) Allotment Rules, 1996, where the post of architect was added for allotment of house in category IX (old). “To that effect, the petitioner has already sent a representation to the respondents on August 20, 2010, which is still pending with the Adviser to the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh.” Before parting with the order, the Bench further added, “Keeping in view the nature of the prayer made, we are of the opinion that it will be appropriate to issue directions to the Adviser to the Administrator to take cognisance of the representation and decide the same expeditiously, preferably within a period of two months, by passing a speaking order. The writ petition stands disposed of with the aforesaid directions.” |

Six booked for fraud
Zirakpur, October 31 The police has registered a case against six persons of Mappel Consultant Company on the complaint of Santosh Singh, Surinder Singh and Deepinder Singh, all residents of Rajasthan. The accused have been identified as Mahinder Sharma, Ramesh, Puja, Nitish and Vijender Kumar. In their complaint to the police, the complainants alleged that they were lured by advertisements published in various newspapers by the accused. The complainants stated that they had given Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000, but the consultant officials had asked them to give Rs 35,000 more. Zirakpur SHO Yogi Raj said they had received several complaints in this regard. He added that the accused had given advertisements in Rajasthan and Delhi-based newspapers and most of the victims belonged to Rajasthan and Delhi. |

3 booked in dowry cases
Mohali/Zirakpur, October 31 While in Zirakpur, the police has booked the husband in a dowry case on the complaint of Apurva Banerjee, a resident of Zirakpur. In her complaint, she said she tied the knot with Saurav Banerjee, a resident of Dehli, in 2009. She alleged that her husband harassed her for bringing more dowry. Balongi: The police today booked Avtar Singh, who was living on a rented accommodation in Balongi, for snatching a bag containing money on a gunpoint from a gas supplier. The case was registered on the complaint of Naval Kishore, a resident of Sohana. The complainant told the police that he went to deliver the gas cylinder at Balongi where the accused asked him to give the bag containing cash. When he refused, the accused pointed out a gun towards him and managed to flee after snatching the bag. A police official stated a case has been registered and the accused would be arrested soon. |

Theft at shop
Panchkula, October 31 The accused, however, fled the spot after leaving an old car. SHO Dalip Singh said owner of the shop had installed CCTV cameras and a security alarm. The police said the thieves had left the place after the alarm went off.

Woman held in ‘princess’ kidnap case
Chandigarh, October 31 She is a resident of Sector 36 and will be produced in the court tomorrow.
The woman is accused of facilitating the kidnapping of the girl. Inspector Poonam Dilwari, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sector 3 police station, said Kamal was the mother of Arjan, who was a friend of the prime accused Inderjit Malik. Besides, she was also close to the co-accused Sangeeta, a PGI doctor, who was absconding and had allegedly also helped her in the kidnapping. They are accused of assisting Inderjit Malik in the abduction of 16-year-old ‘princess’ Durgeshwari. More than a fornight after she was kidnapped, the police has still not been able to trace either the girl or the prime accused. Inderjit Malik allegedly abducted the girl from her school in Sector 9 and police investigations established that the abductor and the victim stayed in a cottage near Manali for four days. The police also said the girl was a ‘princess’ of an erstwhile province in Himachal Pradesh. |

3 juveniles surrender
Chandigarh, October 31 Makhan Singh, alias Lakhwinder, was bludgeoned to death on Saturday night. The police arrested Jaspal and his son Vijay and son-in-law Munish Kumar for the murder yesterday. The accused had attacked Lakhwinder and smashed his head with bricks and stones. They then fled, leaving the victim in a pool of blood. The victim was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where he succumbed to his injuries. The police said the accused had a brawl with Lakhwinder on September 14, when he, along with his family, attacked Jaspal. The police had arrested Lakhwinder then and he had been released out on bail recently. According to the police, Jaspal and others planned to avenge the attack. |

Youth dies in accident
Chandigarh, October 31 A resident of Mohali, he was returning from discotheque at 2.30 am when the mishap occurred. The police said Rajkumar worked as accountant with a Sector-8 firm. He was riding an Activa when an unidentified vehicle hit him. He received a serious head injury and was rushed to the hospital. He stayed with his brother at Mohali. A case of causing death due to negligence under Section 304- of the IPC ws registered at the Sector-17 police station. |

Selection trials for sports fest for women
Chandigarh, October 31 In Group I, the trials would be conducted for Basketball, Gymnastics and Swimming, to be held at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) from November 25 to 28. In Group II events, trials of Handball, Hockey and Tennis will be organised at Jalandhar (Punjab) from December 17 to 20. Trials of Athletics, badminton and table tennis, covered in the Group III, will be held at Ranchi (Jharkhand) from November 17 to 20 while in Group IV, Chikkamangalore (Karnataka) will host the events of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and that of Volleyball, from November 27 to 30. The interested players should attend the trials as per below mentioned schedule in their respective discipline. The players should be of less than 25 years as on December 31, 2011.
