Chandigarh, October 18
Commuters in the city were inconvenienced as traffic was held up for more than two hours here due to the late arrival of the cricket teams of India and England today.

Tickets available

Though it was announced yesterday that the entire chair block tickets were sold out, the authorities reopened the window for the sale of tickets in the same category at 1 pm today.

“If the authorities had tickets, they should have opened the window earlier. I fail to understand the motive behind wasting so much valuable time of the public. The sudden rush encouraged hooliganism among youths,” said Pallika, who was standing in women’s queue.

Security, too

The Chandigarh Police will take measures to stop hooligans from creating nuisance during and after the match. Many hooligans had taken to the roads at Sector 22 after India won the World Cup earlier this year. Eight Punjab Police SPs, nine DSPs, 31 inspectors, 130 NGOs, 860 head constables and constables, 100 woman constables and 60 traffic policemen would be deployed in and around the stadium. Four QRTs, one CCTV van, four bullet-proof nakas, 10 Vajra vans, two teargas squads and one bomb disposal team would be present.
