Dera Bassi youth dies of dengue
Dera Bassi, October 18 As per information from the youth’s relatives, Ranbeer was down with fever for the past eight days and was being treated at a private hospital in Dera Bassi. Later, the patient was shifted to Dhawan Hospital, Panchkula, and when he did not show any progress, he was shifted to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh. There seems to be no respite from dengue as fresh cases continue to be reported in city hospitals. With new cases,
including one of a doctor, being confirmed today, the total number of people affected from dengue has gone up to 27 since September. UT health department officials claimed that the situation was well “under control”. As per data collected by UT health department, a female doctor, residing in Sector 11, and a 39-year old male from Hallo Majra were diagnosed with dengue. While the doctor is admitted to the PGI, the other patient is undergoing treatment at the GMCH
32. Talking to The Tribune, Dr G Verma, anti malaria officer, said the incidences of dengue this year had been less compared to the previous one when 74 cases were reported in September and 132 till October. Only 27 cases have been reported so far.

Order on security tents outside official residences
Chandigarh, October 18 It has also been decided that the security men will be given service quarters inside the official residences of the judges. A decision to this effect was taken on the administrative side by the Building Committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The decision was conveyed by the Acting Chief Justice MM Kumar during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation emanating from the suo motu notice. Justice Ranjit Singh earlier asserted “no one is above law, however so high he or she may be placed. The Chandigarh Administration needs to be asked to perform its functions in accordance with law”. Justice Ranjit Singh had also directed the issuance of notice to the Union Territory of Chandigarh through its Administrator “to show cause as to why these illegal encroachments etc. should not be removed”. In an apparent attempt to prevent the encroachers from getting away with the illegalities, Justice Ranjit Singh in his detailed order had also made it clear to the administration to ensure all violating officer were brought under the ambit of law. “Various violations made by influential officials or officers in the government accommodation allotted to them have been highlighted in the news-item, along with the photographs showing the illegal encroachments or constructions done by them… The “Chandigarh Administration will also carry out checks and report, if any such illegal construction or encroachment has been done by any other official or officer in the government houses allotted to them in Chandigarh”. |

Hit-and-run Case
Chandigarh, October 18 On December 9, 2010, former principal of Government College of Arts, Sector 10 and consultant with Le Corbusier Center VN Singh succumbed to his injuries at GMCH-32. Singh, a resident of Sector 7, was admitted in GMCH-32 in coma since November 28, 2010, when Gill, a resident of Sector 8 rammed his car into the two-wheeler of Singh. The incident had took place on the dividing road of Sector 7 and Sector 8 and Gill managed to escape after leaving the injured at GMSH, Sector 16.The accused was only arrested after a delay of 72 hours on December 1, 2010. |

Mohali, October 18 She had alleged that the suspects along with HS Billing had promised plots to the oustee whose land had been acquired in Chandigarh. Office-bearers of the Pind Vasao Committee had allegedly duped hundreds of oustees of Chandigarh on pretext of giving them plots in lieu of their land acquired in Chandigarh. Those duped were also issued bogus share certificate of their non-existing plots. An FIR had been registered under Sections 406, 420 and 120 b of the IPC against the suspects. One of the suspects, HS Billing, is learnt to have gone abroad. |

Kolkata-based firm owner booked for fraud
Chandigarh, October 18 Singh had deposited a cash of Rs 1.50 lakh on the name of Dev in ICICI Bank, Sector 9, for getting a project from him. The police said the project belonged to insurance form filling (ICF) software and money was deposited in the bank in April, 2011. As per the complaint, Dev refused to allot the project to Sukhvir and also refused to return his money. The case of cheating was registered at the Sector 3 police station. |

The Chandigarh Police will take measures to stop hooligans from creating nuisance
