Black marketing ODI tickets child’s play

In an innovative step to make quick money, migrant labourers are pushing their kids into black-marketing by asking them to purchase tickets for the forthcoming India-England One-Day International match to be held at the PCA Stadium on Thursday.

The UT Police seems to have turned a deaf ear to numerous orders of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) recommending suspension of ‘erroneous’ cops in the last one year.

4 drunk youths assault cop

A 40-year-old UT Police head constable, who was returning home after patrolling duty last night, was assaulted, abducted and later thrown near the forest area in Sector 25 by four tipsy youths whom he had caught drinking at a public place.

Catering to their ‘greed’

In a case of public money being diverted for private use, the principal and staff of Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management (AIHM) in Sector 42 has allegedly pocketed Rs 10.41 lakh as incentive, which was earned by the institute from conducting various training programmes, undertaking outdoor catering services and use of its infrastructure by the general public.

Josan guilty of misconduct

Keeping in mind the requirements of the common man, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has decided to construct 2,000 convenience shops spread all over the town to cater to the basic needs of a vast majority of customers who prefer patronising small shops rather than big showrooms and malls.

Residents feel harassed as SSP unavailable

Protesters raise their voice outside the police headquarters at Sector 9 in Chandigarh on Monday A number of city residents, most of them senior citizens, were reportedly harassed as they waited for over two hours to meet UT SSP Naunihal Singh to express their general grievances, but were asked to return. Over 20 residents protested outside the police headquarters at Sector 9 before they finally dispersed.

MC clears Sec-34 parking lot of encroachment

Violate and pay up four times: MC

The municipal corporation (MC) will charge four times the rate approved from violators of road cuts if they indulge in it without the permission of the authorities. In fact, the material will also be seized there and then by the inspection team. This was decided in the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting, chaired by Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh here today.

No takers at auction

The auction of two paid parking lots of the municipal corporation (MC) at Sector 17 here turned out to be a flop show today. The auction for the Jagat and CMC parking lots was eventually cancelled. Eighteen contractors turned up for the auction, but none participated.

100 quintals of sweets confiscated in Mohali

In a surprise raid conducted on cold stores in the district, 100 quintals of sweets were confiscated from Dasmesh Cold Store, Gharuan, and Punjab Cold Store, Balongi. A harmful chemical (calcium carbide) used for ripening bananas was seized by the district health officials.

5 women acquitted in murder bid case

In a major setback for the Panchkula police, a local court today acquitted five women in an attempt to murder case, wherein the accused had attempted to kill a sub-inspector of the Panchkula police in Pinjore.

Five held for duping oustees

 In what could turn out to be multi-crore scam, the Mohali police has arrested five office-bearers of the Pind Vasao Committee for allegedly duping hundreds of oustees of Chandigarh on pretext of giving them plots in lieu of their land acquired in Chandigarh.

Travel agents booked for fraud

Two travel agents, including a woman, were booked for cheating two persons to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad and arranging travel tickets. The accused, Vijay Pal and Simranjit Kaur, were running their agency in Sector 34.
