Man beaten to death in fight over liquor, 2 held

A 40-year-old man was beaten to death by two other people following an altercation over buying liquor in the city’s Rajiv Gandhi colony near Moti Nagar late on Monday night. The deceased, Rakesh Vishwakarma, a resident of the LIG flats located in the area, had not returned home in the evening from the factory in Doraha where he worked.

Jewellers feel the pinch as gold turns pricey

UCPMA poll: Verbal duel between groups over faulty biometric card

Though the “much-awaited” United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers’ Association
(UCPMA) elections are scheduled for September 15, but allegations and counter allegations have become the order of the day. A verbal duel was witnessed among members of both groups at the UCPMA office when a member of a group alleged that the biometric card showed his wrong details. The other group, however, said there wasn’t any problem with the card, but a few members had punched a wrong number. But both groups indulged in a verbal dual and it was only after a few senior members of the industry intervened that the things were brought under control.

Ludhiana: Students of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School celebrated Teacher’s Day on Monday. Students expressed their love and respect for their teachers. Liquor vends shut from Sept 16 to 18
In order to ensure peaceful polling during elections to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, to be held on September 18, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has ordered all liquor vends in the district to remain closed from September 16 to 18. During this period, liquor will not be permitted to be sold or served at hotels, restaurants, clubs and other places licensed for the purpose. In the orders, issued under powers conferred under Section 54(1) of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, it has been stated that violation of the prohibitory orders will be sternly dealt with.
