Meanwhile, speaking to a large gathering of teachers and students on Teacher’s Day at the SKICC in Srinagar today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stressed on making health and education conflicts neutral. Describing teachers as the architect of future, the Chief Minister said the development of a high quality human resource was in the hands of teachers. “It is up to you to groom the younger generation and give the state a capable, educated and responsible human force to lead in all the spheres of life with confidence and ability,” he told the teachers, asking them to deliver service to society as a mission. He said it was everyone’s duty to keep education away from all conflicts, disturbances and politics to safeguard the future of the state. He added the losses on the development front could be retrieved but the gaps in education remained unfilled for ever. He said the students should receive education in a conducive and peaceful environment so that they could seek knowledge and attain excellence without any hindrance. The Chief Minister said the losses due to law and order problems last year had given a severe jolt to education, which could not be made good. “The same is the case of patients, who could not get treatment due to disturbances,” he added. Congratulating teachers on the occasion, Omar reminded them of their responsibility towards nurturing the students, which, in turn, nurtured the interests of society and the state. Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed enumerated the measures the Education Department had initiated for the welfare of the teaching community. The minister said the teachers enjoyed a high status, respect and position in society in the past, which had declined in the recent years. That status should be restored, he emphasised. |

Hazare a mask of RSS: Digvijay
Jammu, September 5 Stepping up attack on Anna Hazare and his team, he said the activist was a “mask of the RSS like yoga guru Ramdev” and the Sangh was using him (Hazare) to divert the attention of the people from the arrests of its members in terror cases. “They (BJP and RSS) formulated this plan. First, they made Baba Ramdev their mask and then Anna. The involvement of RSS workers have been established in a number of militancy incidents in different parts of the country. The RSS has launched the anti-corruption campaign only to divert the attention of the people.” Digvijay, who was in the city on a private visit, criticised the BJP for adopting double standards on the issue of corruption. “On the one hand, the BJP has been pressing for the Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament, on the other, in the states of Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, where the party is in power, the institution of Lokayukat is non-existent,” he said and charged the BJP leadership with befooling the masses in the name of fighting corruption. Pointing towards the arrest of mining baron Reddy brothers by the CBI, the Congress general secretary alleged that BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Venkaiya Naidu had economic interests in the mining mafia operating in Karnataka. “The arrest of Reddy brothers has exposed the double standards of the BJP leaders, who themselves are involved in corrupt practices,” he said . He added, “Karnatka’s mining scam should have been exposed three years ago.” Digvijay also availed the opportunity to attack a key player of Anna’s team, Arvind Kejriwal, for flouting service rules and amassing huge wealth in the name of an NGO. He said, “I respect Anna Hazare as he is Gandhian but, unfortunately, he is surrounded by wrong people.” However, he added, “Kejriwal is still a government employee. The government has not accepted his resignation. He is still an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS).” “Has a government employee the right to open campaigning? Has he the right to collect donation? If 40 lakh employees cannot do it, how can he (Kejrewal) do it,” Digvijay said. Asked about the Congress’ stand on clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, he avoided a direct reply. “The Congress stand on fighting militancy is very clear. There should be no compromise as far as fighting terrorism in concerned,” he said. Digvijay, however, said if any resolution seeking clemency for Afzal Guru was brought in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the Congress high command would take a decision on it. Independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid had submitted a resolution to the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly seeking clemency for Afzal. The NC had announced that a decision on the resolution would be taken by the party’s working committee. |
