Tribune News Service

Ambala, August 25
A van is being equipped for use as a mobile lab in fighting livestock disease and “bioterrorism”. The animal husbandry department wants to use the mobile lab for diagnostic tests on cattle and other livestock in remote areas that lack electricity and water.

Sources said in the absence of facilities available in Ambala, cattle owners of the district used to carry them to Ludhiana or Hisar for ultrasound and other medical tests. Talking to mediapersons here, Deputy Commissioner Sameer Pal Srow said all types of medical tests, including ultrasound examination for the cattle, would now be available at the doorstep of the cattle owners by the animal husbandry department in Ambala district.

Srow said, “A fully equipped mobile van is made available at the Veterinary Hospital, Jagadhari Gate, Ambala City, under the scheme of the national agriculture development, a Government of India body, in which animal disease diagnostic laboratories on wheels have been supplied to all district headquarters in the state to provide facilities for ultrasound and other tests.” Srow said a portable ultrasound machine, costing Rs 3.40 lakh, has already been received.

Sources disclosed here that a district-level team of professionals would investigate sources of disease outbreaks. The lab’s diagnostic capabilities would reduce the need to transport sick animals and lessen the chances of spreading diseases, said Srow.

Is section apt, court asks police
BKU leader was booked for attempt to murder
Rajinder Nagarkoti
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, August 25
A local court here today asked the Panchkula Police to reply why it had slapped Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder against Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Guni Prakash, who was booked for allegedly staging a murderous attack on himself at Barwala on July 31.

The court here raised this question on the bail application filed by Guni Prakash. It has asked the Panchkula Police to reply why it had registered an FIR under Section 307 of the IPC against Guni Prakash instead of Section 188 of the IPC for false information. The court has now deferred the hearing for August 30.

In his anticipatory bail application, Guni had pleaded that he was being falsely implicated in this case and he had no connection with this case.

But according to the police, Guni, along with three of his accomplices, had conspired to implicate Ashok, Soni, Randeep, all residents of Pharal village in Kaithal district, and his political opponent Ratanmaan, a resident of Karnal, in a criminal case.

In this case, the police had already arrested accused Ramsarup, Sukhbir and Ombir, the fourth accused. Guni was undergoing a treatment for a bullet injury at the PGI.

Guni was admitted to the hospital with a bullet injury on his shoulder on July 31. He had alleged that Ashok, Soni, Randeep and Ratanmaan, along with another unidentified person, had attacked him.

The police, however, found out that all accused were at their houses within an hour of the incident. Even the locations of their mobile phones were found to be in their respective village areas at the time of the incident. According to the police, on the night of July 31 Sukhbir injured Guni by firing a bullet shot on his shoulder at Barwala.
