Resumption notices to 15 hotels for basement misuse
Admn to begin eviction proceedings under SDM concerned
Chandigarh, August 11

Initiating stringent action against hotels in the city for misuse of basements for commercial activities without the requisite permission, the UT estate office on Thursday issued notices of resumption of properties to 15 hotels, orders on which were passed last Tuesday.

UT to provide free treatment for MDR-TB
Chandigarh, August 11
What will surely prove to be a boon for hundreds of people suffering from multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), the expensive second-line treatment for the disease, which can cost anything between Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh, will now be provided free by the UT health department.

‘Give information on PGs’
The UT Administration has directed landlords, owners and managers of paying guest accommodations to inform their respective Station House Officer (SHO) regarding antecedents of paying guests staying in their accommodations, a press release said here on Thursday. This has been done to minimise the anti-social elements in the guise of paying guests. The order issued under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code made it clear that offenders, who will not follow this order, will be liable to be prosecuted under Section 188 of the IPC.

Residents oppose expansion of chemical plant

Residents of the Dera Bassi area and leaders of different parties opposed the expansion of a chemical plant in Bhagwanpur during a public hearing on Tuesday. They alleged that the area was already facing problems of air and water pollution. “The new unit would only aggravate these problems. We would not allow anymore establishment that risks the health of local people,” said a resident of Dera Bassi.
