Taking a complete u-turn from his stand that the law and order situation had become a casualty, thereby demanding the transfer of the Commissioner of Police, the health minister, Satpal Gosain, today said that he had “settled the issues” with the city’s top cop, Ishwar Singh, and his deputy Harsh Bansal.

Police recovers 2 kids caught up in carjacking

Four young men who sped away in a car after pulling out a woman sitting in it, were in for a surprise when they spotted two children sleeping on the back seat. They then abandoned the vehicle after it got stuck in a paddy field in Malak village near Jagraon.

Draftsmen intensify stir, resume strike
Ludhiana, June 27
 Draftsmen hold a rally in support of their demands in Ludhiana on Monday. After observing a five-day pen-down strike from June 20 in support of their pending demands, the engineering drawing cadre of 21 government departments has decided to intensify its agitation in the wake of “indifferent attitude” of the state government. Resuming the strike from today, the draftsmen will continue the strike till June 29 and go on a mass casual leave on June 30 and July 1.

NH-1 project in city faces four-month delay

There is more glum news for city residents - work on widening National Highway-I within the municipal limits to six lanes will be delayed by another four months. The firm that was contracted the Rs 2,750 crore project has now extended the deadline for its completion from next November to March 2012.

Youth missing since 8 days found dead
Jagraon, June 27
A youth of Chachrari village near Jagraon, who had gone missing some days back, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the grain market of the village this afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Sukhbir Singh, alias Sukhi (26), of Chachrari village.

Fake currency: Depositors, bank staff at loggerheads

Three days after the CIA-I police busted a fake currency racket, high drama was witnessed at the treasury branch of the State Bank of India on Sham Singh Road here this afternoon when few depositors went on loggerheads with the bank staff for not returning currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination that were found to be counterfeit.

With the arrest of Jagjit Singh, alias Judge, the Amloh police claimed to have solved a murder case here today. Amar Singh, a resident of Chehallan village near here, had stated that his wife Bakhshish Kaur (50) had left for Amloh on March 21 but did not reach there.
