35-year-old woman raped, abandoned

The victim, said to be 35-years-old, was found abandoned seminude and in an unconscious state.

Colony residents protest against police
Chandigarh, May 28
Claiming it was the fifth incident of a woman being raped in the area in the last month and with the cops still groping in the dark, angry residents of Colony No 4 ‘gheraoed’ (surrounded) the Industrial Area police station in protest and raised anti-police slogans. The protesters included a large number of women who shouted it had become difficult for them to venture out in the dark with these incidents having left them terrified.

Few takers for evaluation of PU examination papers
Chandigarh, May 28
In contravention of the decision taken by the Panjab University senate in December 2009, only a handful of teachers turned up for evaluation of examination papers of certain subjects this year. Only five reported for evaluation of the MA Punjabi (I) paper against 27 listed as the requirement by the varsity’s examination branch based on the recommendation of the board of control (BOC). Then again, three teachers turned up to evaluate the MA Punjabi (II) paper against 23 called by the university, while only two turned up to evaluate the MA Punjabi (III) paper for which the board had recommended 22 evaluators.

2 city youths feared drowned
Ambala, May 28
Two Chandigarh youths were feared drowned in Narwana branch canal at Jansui village, around 20 km from here, this evening. They were identified as Sahil and Nitish. One of the youths was the resident of Sector 22.

The traffic police claims to have made adequate arrangements with over 1,500 policemen deployed to look after security tomorrow.

Yuvi’s bag stolen from his Audi
Zirakpur, May 28
Thieves have bowled out cricketer Yuvraj Singh. A bag containing his clothes and important documents of his secretary was stolen from Yuvraj Singh’s Audi car when his driver and cook were changing a flat tyre near the Zirakpur toll barrier on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway today.

Lineman sustains burn injuries
Zirakpur, May 28
Mahinder Singh, a lineman working at the Zirakpur subdivision of Powercom, sustained burn injuries after he got an electric shock. He was admitted to a private hospital where his condition was declared stable now.

Labourer falls to death
Dera Bassi, May 28
One person was killed in a factory near Dera Bassi after he slipped while constructing a shed on the premises of a company. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Dyal Ram, son of Inder Ram, resident of Mukandpur.
