UT to get Rs 80 cr against demand for Rs 100 cr

The UT Administration will get Rs 80 crore more in the Plan Budget for 2011-2012 as against an original demand of Rs 100 crore. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Arun Mehra, member of the Planning Commission, in New Delhi today.

Sukhna reserve forest holds up UT master plan

A patch of the Sukhna reserve forest is apparently holding up the city’s master plan. While the said land measuring around 25 sq km is in the possession of the UT Administration, its revenue records continue to be with the Punjab and Haryana governments even decades after the area was acquired for soil conservation works under Section 48 (5) of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966.

Govt schoolmasters nearing retirement still await promotion

While on one hand, the education department keeps on issuing new instructions everyday to its teachers to bring the standard of education in government schools at par with the private ones, on the other, it is ignoring the very interest of its employees. Government schoolmasters have been waiting since years for promotions as headmasters but the department has not taken suitable action in order to give them their due share.

Submission date extended

Murder case of Mohali woman cracked

A family friend’s compassion for Sonia, alias Sapna, led the police to crack the brutal murder of the 34-year-old woman whose body, with her throat slit, was found lying in a pool of blood at her home in Phase XI yesterday.
