Training school in Rajpura to produce super cops
Rajpura, May 24 Police officials, most of them young recruits, from different units and battalions of the Punjab Police will be trained here. The cops will be deployed on deputation and will get special uniform, pay and weapons, besides training, at the school. Their chief task will be to fight terrorists and
provide security to VIPs and politicians. A senior police official of Punjab Police has said the SSG will be shaped on the lines of the National Security Guards and cops will undergo strenuous training sessions at the training school. They will get advanced training by experts to fight terrorist groups and to protect VIPs and ministers. Different training sessions will gradually be added later on. This school will be a first-of-its-kind initiative in Punjab, wherein a super-specialised force will learn to use sophisticated weapons and undergo challenging physical training. IG Sanjeev Kalra has confirmed that the land has been allotted for the training school and money will be
deposited soon to get possession of land. “There will be two components of the SSG, VIP security and special weapon and tactics team. The force will get regular training at the school and recruitment for specialised forces will be done gradually,” he has said. The IG has refused to divulge further details, citing security reasons. Sources in the police have said the SSG will comprise at least 800 cops, who will undergo special training in a phased manner to combat terrorism and provide unprecedented security to VIPs. A quick reaction team (QRT) will also be formed. Israeli security experts, who recently visited here, had trained 60 cops. Twenty of these cops have been appointed trainees for
this QRT team. Panchayat land of the village will be given on lease at a cost of Rs 25,000 per acre and there will be a 10 per cent increase in the amount every three years. The police department will deposit the lease amount with the gram panchayat in April every year, failing which the lease will be cancelled. Strenuous training

Nine youths booked for attacking students

Lalru, May 24 The police had registered a case against Vicky Rana, Anuj Rana, Binder Rana, Charan Singh, Jaggi, Sidhu, Sukhi, Inder and Kaka and others under Sections 323, 324, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC. This case was registered on the statement of Parveen Rana, a resident of Nagla, who was injured in the group clash yesterday. He alleged in his statement that he was going on a bike along with his friends Vishal Singh and Gurjeet Singh when some youth in a Bolero car intercepted them and attacked them near Malkpur village. He said the assailants attacked them with sharp edged weapons. The police said no attacker was arrested yet. It further added that it was investigating whether any firing had taken place during this clash. Woman doctor arrested under PNDT Act
Ambala: The police has arrested a private practitioner of Ambala City on charges of violating the PNDT Act late last evening. Later, she was produced at the residence of the Duty Magistrate and was granted bail. A team of doctors, led by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Sangeeta Goel, raided a clinic located near Manav Chowk at Ambala City late in the evening and had recovered medical equipment and the medicine used in termination of pregnancy. SHO, Sadar police station, was also accompanying the raiding team. Dr Goel said the Civil Surgeon had got a complaint that a woman doctor of the private clinic was violating the PNDT Act. The team raided at the clinic and checked their records. She said on the complaint of hospital authorities the police had registered a case against the doctor. Last month Dr Goel had raided at two ultrasound centres at Naraingarh and at Ambala City and sealed their ultrasound machines. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Samir Pal Saro has directed the health authorities to take a strict action against the ultrasound centres found involved in gender determination. — OC |

Patiala, May 24 In the below 45 category, Preeni Singh won the Summer Queen crown whereas Jaspreet Kaur and Pooja Bansal were second and third, respectively. In above 45 category, Sukhpreet Brar was declared winner while Surinder Kharoud and Madhu Abrol were second and third, respectively. Harleen Chadda won the award for best suit whereas Seema Jalota won the award for best sari. Satpal Kohli was declared most elegant woman and Surinder Kahroud won the award for best hairstyle. President of the club Meenakshi Singla said the contest included introduction round, followed by ramp walk and question-answer round. |
NK jain case
Chandigarh, May 24 Witnesses, hotelier Karan Singh and Chandigarh Golf Club caddy Ajit Sharma turned hostile today. Hotelier Karan Singh, owner of Hotel Pankaj Green Park near Ramgarh in Panchkula, deposed in court that the accused never visited his hotel and he never booked room in his name. Moreover, he added that the police tampered his hotel register, which was seized by the UT Police. Chandigarh Golf Club caddy Ajit Sharma also turned hostile. As per prosecution, Ajit Sharma had seen complainant Jain on the evening of August 14, 2002 in the club, as he was with him as a caddy but Sharma today denied and stated that he had never seen NK Jain. — TNS |

Bomb hoax call: case registered
Chandigarh, May 24 An unidentified caller made a hoax call at police control room at Sector 9 yesterday, claiming a bomb had been planted inside the district court complex at Sector 17. The police swung into action and cordoned off the complex. The police said the call was made through a mobile phone and the number was registered in the name of a resident of Samrala district in Punjab. |

Woman booked for murdering husband
Mohali, May 24 Few days later the father of the deceased got suspicious on seeing the behaviour of his daughter-in-law and found that she was having relations with her paramour Kuldeep Singh, who lives in Australia. The conversation between the two was recorded between July 4, 2006, and July 7, 2006, and the doubt of the victim’s father was confirmed. The daughter of the deceased Barleen also stated that her mother Manpreet Kaur and maternal aunt Baljeet Kaur had given her father cold drink laced with some poisonous substance. With the facts the victim’s father kept on pressing upon the Mohali Police to register a case of murder against Manpreet. Ultimately he had to approach the Human Rights Commission to get the case registered on investigations carried out by Chandigarh-based crime branch unit of the Punjab Police. Now, a case of murder has been registered against Manpreet Kaur and Baljeet Kaur at Phase I police station. |

Servant decamps with Rs 1.84 lakh, cellphone
Chandigarh, May 24 Narinder Singh, a resident of house number 3,315 in Sector 21, reported to the police that his Nepalese servant, Dalip fled with the booty last night while they were all asleep. He said the accused was a resident of Vaki Dang village, Roptianchal district (Nepal), and was working with him for the last 10 months. His verification with the police was not done. He stole away Rs 1.84 lakh cash, one mobile phone and one cheque from the cupboard of his house last night. On May 18, a week after Rs 8.5 lakh were stolen from the house of a businessman, Damanjit Singh in Sector 8, the police arrested two servants, Mallan Kumar, alias Shankar and Dinesh Kumar. Both hailed from Gonda district of UP. An amount of around Rs 5.8 lakh has been recovered from their possession. Earlier, the police arrested a 33-year-old maid, Anita, for stealing Rs 3.89 lakh from the house of her businessman employer, Parminder Singh in Sector 36. Anita, a widow, and her 20-year-old brother-in-law, Deepak Kumar were arrested. On May 2, another maid Bala Devi was arrested for stealing gold jewellery worth around Rs 6 lakh and Rs 18,200 cash from the house of her employer Gurpreet Singh in Sector 35. Bala Devi was not registered with the local police and was traced through questioning of some part time servants in the locality. On April 26, a 19-year-old servant, Rajesh was arrested for stealing cash and other valuables from the house of his employer in Sector 11. |

3 held for planning to loot petrol station
Chandigarh, May 24 The police arrested Dharambir, alias Pittal, a resident of Patiala road, Zirakpur, Pitambar, alias Pipander, a resident of Mauli Complex, and Jatinder, alias Kalank, a resident of Mauli Complex, Raipur Kalan. They were planning for a dacoity and the police recovered one “katta” from their possession. SHO, Mani Majra Police Station, Inspector Rajesh Kumar Shukla said the three were planning to loot the petrol pump near Fun Republic when they were arrested. “They were wanted by the Crime branch in several cases and have also committed dacoities in Pinjore and Kalka,” he said. |
