Testing of samples for early detection of HIV/AIDS
Dehradun, May 21 The sample will be sent to the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD), New Delhi, for testing through a courier service and the report will be received within four weeks. This facility was not available at Doon Hospital as it did not possess the PCR testing equipment. Earlier, the children had to wait for 14 months for carrying out HIV confirmatory tests at the hospital; now samples for testing at NICD can be undertaken for children who are four weeks old. “As newborn babies have a false positivity due to maternal antibodies, waiting period is advised before the tests can be undertaken,” said Dr KS Negi, child specialist, ART (Doon Hospital). The HIV PCR test is a new technology used for HIV early-detection testing and is accessible in big hospitals. The new HIV PCR test looks for the DNA copy of the HIV virus itself in your blood. It is extremely accurate, sensitive and the cutting edge of HIV early-detection testing. This is a new technology for the early detection of HIV after 28 days of exposure. The mandatory HIV tests in babies are undertaken to prevent the transmission of HIV/ AIDS from parent to child in case if one parent or both are suffering from HIV/AIDS. Chakravorty warns freshers in film industry against con men
Dehradun, May 21 An alumnus of city-based DBS College, he is in the city on a personal visit. He had shifted to Mumbai 22 years ago to make his mark in the film industry and also managed to fulfil his dream of becoming a director. His father Ajay Kumar Chakravorty, who also directed many plays and was a well-known figure in the field of acting in the city, always wanted Jaidev to become a doctor, though Jaidev always dreamt to be a part of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTTI). “My father has directed many plays with local artistes, including actor Himani Shivpuri. He always wanted me to become a doctor and asked me to work in the field of direction as a hobby and not a profession. But I wanted to move to Mumbai. On this, my father gave me just six-month time to make a niche for myself,” said Jaidev. While struggling for a break, he met director Esmayeel Shroff and his career kicked off. “I was lucky that I met good people in the industry. My career took a shape after meeting Shroff and since then, have I never looked back. I worked with many actors like Salmaan Khan, Sri Devi, Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Shakti Kapoor,” he said. “I worked as an assistant director with Esmayeel for the movie ‘Police Public’ (debut film as AD), ‘Nischaiy’, ‘Zid’ and ‘Yeh Majhdhar’, he said. “After this, I got chance to work on ‘Saajan’ with Lawrence D’ Suza,” he added. Jaidev also got an opportunity to assist Pankaj Prashar. “I assisted him for ‘Rajkumar’, ‘Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nai’ and ‘Mohabbat Ka Safar’,” he said. Jaidev said he had directed and produced many corporate films, add films and documentaries. Bengali film named “Roktobandhan” was his first independent project. After this came a Nepalese movie “Sargam” followed by Hindi film “We Are Friends”. Maati, his short film in Hindi, was nominated for the Mumbai Film Festival in 2009. Life-long passion for theatre
Dehradun, May 21 While dabbling in theatre, he also applied for the job of an auditor in a government department for which he was luckily selected. The job ensured a steady income while he kept nurturing his passion for theatre. Today his son and grandchildren also accompany him on stage. His organisation, dedicated to theatre and performing arts, hosts cultural programmes regularly. When asked whether the theatre movement has a future especially in the age of reality television and internet, each clamouring for viewers’ attention, he said the movement was still alive and viewers do troop in and were known to give a standing ovation to good performances. One had to experiment constantly as a director and be right on target as far as the taste of the audience was concerned. “In Dehradun, too, we managed to get full houses for good performances.” On his journey so far and about his contemporaries, some of whom even carved a niche for themselves as part of the Hindi Cinema, he said since 1957, he had been staging plays regularly. Some of the plays that he staged included Shakespeare’s “Othello”, “Julius Caesar” and Rakesh Mohan’s “Ashar Ka Ek Din”. I have acted and directed in around 300 plays while being a part of the Doon Ghati Rang Manch, he said. He added that after he retired from the job of an auditor in 2001, he had been actively engaged in nurturing young talent. He had the good fortune of acting with Himani Bhatt, with whom he performed several plays. She later debuted on the silver screen and gave fine performances. “I want to emphasise that actors with a theatre background have it easy if they embark on a film or television career. The sound training that they receive while doing theatre pays off.” Talking about the kind of support he craved from the government and whether the government has done enough to promote arts in the state, he says if one goes back in history, art has really taken off whenever it was patronised by the kings and the genteel classes. He adds, “I do not want to make a class distinction here, but that is a fact. In a democratic country, there are several choices and the supportive role of the government is always welcome, but ultimately it is society that has to keep the latent interest alive.” Beginning tomorrow, once again Doon Ghati Rang Manch will be staging a cultural show that is expected to draw talent from across the country. Says Laxmi Narain Singh, “Every year we organise Bharat Rang Mahotsav and this year eight states have already confirmed their participation. We have shifted the venue to Kalu Mal Dharamshala as the Town Hall is undergoing repair work.” |
