Zonal Commissioner caught taking bribe
To be produced in court today

Zonal Commissioner AS Sekhon in vigilance custody The Municipal Corporation Zonal Commissioner (C-Zone) AS Sekhon was caught by the Vigilance while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000. The raid was conducted by DSP Vigilance Gurcharan Singh along with two government witnesses.

50-yr-old woman dies in brawl; 3 booked

A middle-aged woman lost her life during a brawl between two groups in Bajra village near here late on Monday night. The victim has been identified as Pritam Kaur, 50.

Snatchers arrested
Ludhiana, April 19
Snatchers in police custody in Ludhiana on Tuesday. A gang of snatchers active in the Model Town and Dugri areas has been arrested. Sushil Kumar (ADCP-II) said on April 14, Nidhi Ahuja of Model Town lodged a complaint with the police that three persons on a motorcycle (PB 10 CD 6171) snatched her bag containing a laptop.

Quack gathers junkies to attack complainants

In yet another instance of fraudulent “medical” practitioners being allowed to flourish unchecked in the state, both the health & family welfare department and the police have expressed their helplessness to take action against a quack said to be practising allopathic medicine in Lalton Kalan village near here.

Central excise supdts facing stagnation
Ludhiana, April 19
Around 12,000 superintendents of central excise are suffering from prolonged stagnation, financial degradation due to pay erosion and social humiliation in officio- social hierarchy due to irresponsive attitude of the Central Board of Excise and Customs, said AK Sharma, president of the All-India Association of Central Excise Gazetted Executive Officers (Chandigarh zone, comprising Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh).

Books distributed among needy

Books were distributed to needy students of Arya School, Kidwai Nagar by the Children and Women Welfare Council. Nearly hundred students mostly girls were distributed the set of books. The students belong to different schools, who could not afford to buy books.

Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil gave a green light to the private health sector to open up hospitals in the country. The Governor was in the city today to inaugurate an eye hospital, “Center for Sight”.Patil said, “our country supports the population of 120 crore and it was not possible for the Centre and state governments alone to provide health services to every individual.

Woman robbed of gold, cash
Ludhiana, April 19
Two unidentified youths looted a woman of 150 gram of gold and Rs 5,000 at Santokh Nagar in Salem Tabri here yesterday afternoon.The youths went to the house of Satish Jain, running a confectionery shop at Santokh Nagar, around 1:30 pm on the pretext of checking the electricity meter.
