Police fails to recover vehicles from canal
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 19 Sarabjit Singh Sohavi, member of police coordination committee, and vice-chairman of the market committee, Chanarthal Kalan, alleged that the police had failed to act swiftly despite being informed about the vehicles found in the canal. “The matter was also taken up at a recent meeting but even then no action had been initiated in this regard. I saw a Gypsy and a car lying in the dried-up canal a few days ago and informed the police about the vehicles. An area resident also informed them about a third vehicle in the canal,” Sohavi said. He added that only one car was pulled out of the canal this evening. This, despite the fact that water would be released in the canal tonight. He said some cases could have been solved and lost property restored had the police acted swiftly. Area residents said though junk dealers, thieves and poor villagers had been removing iron and other parts from vehicles, the police officials were not keen on removing the vehicles from the canal. |

Parole Case Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, April 19 After recording their presence, the Bench of Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice M Jeyapaul fixed April 27 as the deadline for them to file their reply to the “statutory contempt notice”. The two, on the face of it, were held blameworthy for wilfully disobeying the orders in at least three cases. Issuing “statutory contempt notice”, the Bench had asked them to show-cause “why contempt proceedings be not initiated against them for wilfully disobeying the orders passed by this court”. The directions came on three petitions filed by Parveen Kumar of Sector 33 and two others. As the case came up for hearing, counsel for the petitioners informed the Bench that the prayer for their release on parole was initially rejected on the ground that the owner of the house, where the petitioners wanted to avail the parole facility, declined to vouch for them. After they challenged the orders, the High Court allowed the petition with a direction to the respondents to reconsider the case for temporary release within two weeks. The counsel asserted the respondents again rejected the prayer on the ground the house of the convicts was found to be locked and as per inquiry the address of the father of the petitioners was not known. The counsel added: “In the subsequent orders, the authorities have not considered the directions given by the High Court.” The Bench had asserted: “On perusal of the earlier orders as well as the impugned order, we prima facie come to the conclusion that the ruled UT District Magistrate as well as the Inspector-General of Prison, have exhibited scant regard to the orders passed by the Bench of this court and have not cared to comply with the direction issued earlier by this court.” “Both the authorities appear to have wilfully disobeyed the order passed by this court not only in this case, but in two other cases also where similar orders were passed by this court. The conduct amounts to contempt.” |

"We are happy with the success of Rupinder. He has represented India several times at junior level. But this is surely a big chance for him to draw all attentions with his abilities," said Jasbir Bajwa and Alpinder Singh, both coaches at the academy. Rupinder was selected for the Commonwealth camp last year with two other players from the academy -- forward Dharamvir Singh and centre half Preet Inder Singh. However, Rupinder could not make it to the Indian squad that time while Dharamvir was selected in the Commonwealth team. Later he (Dharamvir) also represented the country in Asian Games at Guangzhou in China. But this time he was not called for the camp as he was preparing for his college exams. Rupinder's coaches felt that as the national squad consists of mainly inexperienced and young players, Rupinder would have a good chance to showcase his talent if given chance to play.
