Manpreet an opportunist: Majithia
Hoshiarpur, March 30 He was trying to mislead the people of Punjab by giving irresponsible statements for his selfish motive to grab power. But people of Punjab were wise and would not be misled by his false statements. Talking to mediapersons here yesterday, he said the recent formation of a new political party by Manpreet Badal would not make any impact on the forthcoming elections to the state Assembly. The SAD-BJP would jointly contest these elections on development issue and would definitely get majority to form the next government in Punjab. Referring to the ongoing debt on the Punjab Government, he said loans had been acquired by the state government for the welfare schemes to uplift the downtrodden. Subsidies being given in certain welfare schemes were right of the poor and should be continued in future also. Manpreet Badal should remain thankful to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who had got him elected for four terms in the state Assembly. |

Jindal Sales Corp asked to pay up
Hoshiarpur, March 30 Bahera gram panchayat, through its sarpanch Baldev Singh, had filed a complaint against the JSC on the ground that the JSC had illegally charged VAT for Rs 15,840 on the purchase of 900 m pipe of 3" diameter, ISI mark, medium class at the rate of Rs 440 per metre for Rs 4,11,840. The owner of the JSC raised the defence that he had paid VAT for the material purchased, so charging of VAT on the goods sold to the gram panchayat was justifiable. The consumer court observed that the items purchased by the JSC through bill did not tally with the items sold by him to the Bahera gram panchayat. It was observed that the bill of the pipes neither bore bill number nor VAT number. Consequently, it was held that the Jindal Sales Corporation had illegally charged Rs 15,840 on account of 4 per cent VAT, as the bill issued by the JSC did not bear bill and VAT numbers, which amounted to unfair trade practice as well as deficiency in service. |
