Charging of stamp duty on land
Bassi Pathana, March 27 They urged Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to review the decision, as it would result in a loss of stamp duty instead of an increase. They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard. The colonisers in a press release stated that the revenue department had instructed all Deputy Commissioners to charge stamp duty on the land purchased by them. At present, colonisers pay the stamp duty at collector rates. They said they used only 60 per cent of land for sale purpose, while 40 per cent was used in the construction of roads, parks and other works. They said with the implementation of these instructions, the land would fall under a residential area, whereas power of change of land use (CLU) was with the department of housing. They said it would result in confusion, as colonisers would be left wondering whether they should get the CLU after getting the land registered. They said the move would encourage illegal colonisers, who get the land register in their name for agricultural purpose and sell it by making unapproved maps of colonies. People easily fall prey to their tactics and end up buying plots in these colonies. They urged the state government to reconsider these instructions to rationalise rates. Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation that he would take up their demands with government. He urged the colonisers to follow the government’s guidelines. |
