The sources at the hospital have said there is no provision for a lift. The ground floor is generally dark and lavatories are either not working or locked.

There is no arrangement for attendants of patients to stay. These attendants are forced to stay put in the indoor wards and are open to contract infection.

The sources say with this grant, a lift will be installed on a priority basis and a room will be built for the stay of attendants of patients admitted. All lavatories at the hospital will also be made functional. It has also been proposed that electricity wires be replaced as fittings need urgent replacement and repairs.

It has been proposed that a gallery from the trauma centre to the old emergency ward and the emergency ward be built so that patients can be shifted from the emergency to the wards without being made to face the vagaries of the weather.

Meanwhile, the office of the principal medical officer on the first floor is nearing completion. Eleven special wards are almost ready on the second floor. These wards will be air-conditioned and have a provision for an attached toilet and kitchen.

The sources say that the administration wants to instal two lifts, but with the grant being meagre, only one lift will be installed in the first instance. The sources say the Haryana government will be requested again for another grant of the same amount so that other pending works can be completed.

Encroachment hinders laying of sewerage
Hemant Kumar

Kalka, March 18
Encroachment on panchayat land has come in the way of the work on the laying of sewerage for certain houses in Bharat Nagar. The “shamlat” land of Tagra Kali Ram village, behind Shiv Mandir, has been under illegal occupation of a woman resident of the locality for the past couple of years.

Subsequently, the project, which was to begin five years ago, has not seen the light of the day so far. The encroachment has become the biggest hurdle in the start of the project.

Bharat Nagar residents, on the condition of anonymity, said Kamla Devi, a resident of Tagra Kali Ram, who owned a house there had encroached upon the common land of the village.

She has extended the boundary wall of her house to the portion of land where drainage and the common path of Bharat Nagar crossed.

Subsequently, the project has failed to take off as the sewerage is likely to cross the portion under encroachment. The sewerage line will connect the main line along the Kalka-Charnia link road, near Guga Mari.

Interestingly, the administration has already sanctioned Rs 50,000 for the project.

As a result of the delay, house owners have been forced to construct septic tanks on their own.

They claimed that they had taken up the matter with the BDPO two years ago and sought the demarcation of the land. However, due to the apathetic attitude of the official, nothing had happened in this regard so far.

Encroachment removed

Taking a serious note of the directives of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in connection with the frequent traffic jams on the NH-22 and NH-21-A at Kalka and Pinjore, a team of local administration — headed by Duty Magistrate Naresh Kumar and accompanied by officials of Kalka and Pinjore MCs besides the police force — razed encroachment in the main bazaar of Kalka and Pinjore today. The staff seized articles of shopkeepers and banners on Holi put up by certain political leaders.
